Stratford-upon-Avon best known as Shakespeare's birthplace is a medieval market town with more than 800 years of history, lined with characteristic Tudor half-timbered buildings.

A lot of the attractions in Stratford-upon-Avon are centered around Shakespeare's life which include Shakespeare’s Birthplace, where the writer lived in his youth; the Holy Trinity Church (where he’s buried) and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage (his wife’s former home). Meanwhile, at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company brings his masterworks to life.

Times for Arriving Into and Leaving Stratford-upon-Avon:

Train
Aim to arrive at Stratford-upon-Avon by 12:00 and leave Stratford-upon-Avon around 17:30, to arrive back into London at approximately by 19:45.

There are trains from London Marylebone or London Euston to Stratford-upon-Avon. Please note you will have to make 2 changes if you are travelling by train from London Euston, whereas travels from London Marylebone requires 1 change. It is advised to book your train tickets in advance to lower the cost of the train fare.

London Marylebone (08:02) > Lapworth (9:56) - 39 min transfer time> Laptworth (10:24) > Stratford-upon-Avon (10:47).

London Marylebone (09:02) > Leamington Spa (10:29) - 10 min transfer > Leamington Spa (10:39) > Stratford-upon-Avon (11:13).

London Marylebone (09:32) > Lapworth (11:15) - 9 min transfer > Lapworth (11:24) > Stratford-upon-Avon (11:46).

Return train journey
Stratford-upon-Avon (16:08) > Dorridge (16:32) - 28 min transfer - Dorridge (17:00) > London Marylebone (18:45)

Stratford-upon-Avon (17:31) > Leamington Spa (18:07) - 14 min transfer - Leamington Spa (18:21) > London Marylebone (19:45)

There are a variety of car parks situated within walking distance of the town centre. Please check the Stratford-upon-Avon council website.

I am planning to visit the following places, and you are more than welcome to join me, or you could explore the town separately.

12:00 - 13:30 - Shakespeare's Birthplace
13:30 - 14:15 - lunch at a cafe or pub
14:30 - 15:30 Shakespeare’s New Place
15:45 - 16:45 Holy Trinity Church and/or if the weather is warm and dry, I might take a boat ride on the River Avon or visit another tourist attraction.

If you plan to visit Shakespeare's Birthplace and Anne Hathaway's cottage, I suggest you book the "Shakespeare's Story Ticket" on the shakespeare.org.uk website, which is £27.

Turn up at an event without being on the 'Going' list (i.e. members who have not signed up or are on the waitlist)
