The Philosophy of Fashion - Mayfair Philosophy Walk

Something a little different this time: the philosophy of fashion, from aesthetics to the ethics of the fashion business. We'll be asking questions including: "is beauty in fashion purely subjective?", "how does what we wear shape our identity?", "are we complicit in the poor working conditions of workers when buying our clothes?", "what does it mean to be stylish?".

We'll be using The Fashion System by Roland Barthes as inspiration - but you don't have to read it to join the walk:

Meet outside Bond Street underground station on the corner of South Molton Street at 11am.

This is a walking discussion group with handouts with quotes and questions provided as a starting point. The only rule is to keep all discussion friendly and constructive and be respectful of other attendees. No dogs please as they can be distracting in the group discussion. Please arrive early: we wait a maximum of 15 minutes at the meeting location and once we have left it will be very difficult to find us. The walk will go ahead no matter the weather so do dress appropriately and bring an umbrella if needed.
