What we’re about

Homebrew, Historical and Retro Computing is a group for anyone who enjoys tinkering with classic machines, building their own, or just chatting about the history of computing. We cover everything from 8-bit and 16-bit systems to modern recreations, homebrew builds, and the stories behind the original hardware.
Whether you’re playing with an RC2014, Z80-MBC2, LiNC80, a beloved vintage machine, or you’re simply curious about processors like the Z80, 6502, 68000, or lesson common chips like the INMOS Transputer, you’ll fit right in. Hardware, software, operating systems, programming, restoration, oddities - it’s all fair game.
We meet on zoom once per month. We're always happy to hear from people who want to present something whether it's a personal project, a computer restoration, or something interesting you've learned. Several times a year we meet in person for events such as the Retro Computer Festival in Cambridge or to visit places such as the Jim Austin computer collection (AKA Computer Sheds) in Yorkshire.
If you enjoy building, fixing, learning about or celebrating old computers (or new computers pretending to be old ones), come join us!
