Scala Days proposal online hack

Details

Are you interested in speaking at Scala Days, but not sure what to speak about? Join the Scala Days proposal hack! Come and discuss ideas in a friendly and welcoming environment.

How it works
Join us online on the ScalaBridge Discord. We'll split into groups and discuss ideas, write up proposals and review them. By the end, everyone will have at least one proposal.

Frequently asked questions

I've never spoken at a conference before and I'm not sure if I should. Am I really qualified?
Absolutely! Noel Rappin, a RailsConf organizer, has a good article on this here. In short:

  • A conference that was limited to only people that really thought they were the most qualified person to talk would be depressing, if not completely horrific.
  • You are absolutely the most qualified person to tell me what you think on a particular topic.
  • This is how you become qualified. You study something, you teach it to other people.

I'm very junior and new to Scala. Am I qualified to submit to Scala Days?
Definitely! The Scala community would love to hear from you. In case you missed it, have a read of Noel Rappin's article.

I don't want to speak about a technical subject. Would Scala Days still be interested in my proposal?
Of course! Experience reports are greatly desired. For example, Scala Days would be interested in your experience learning Scala, hiring or managing Scala developers, teaching Scala to others, or avoiding burnout while contributing to the Scala ecosystem.

When is Scala Days?
It's from the 19th to the 21st August. More details are on the Scala Days website .

Should I really speak at Scala Days?
Yes! As well as being able to share your ideas on the most prestigious Scala stage, you'll be given a free ticket to the conference and possibly even have your travel and accommodation expenses covered.

I'm nervous presenting. Can I get help practicing?
Yes! The London Scala User Group is happy to mentor you throughout the process and give you as much help as you need preparing your talk. We have experienced speakers on hand to give you ideas and feedback throughout, and the opportunity to present to a smaller group.

How do Scala Days submissions work?
To submit, you'll fill in this form . We'll work on the sections during the hack.

I can't make it to Scala Days. Can I brainstorm ideas for other conferences?
You're welcome to brainstorm ideas for Scala-related conferences. For example you can brainstorm ideas for Lambda World (submissions are yet to open), or even just your local meetup.
