Lambda World proposal online hack

Details

Are you interested in speaking at Lambda World, but not sure what to speak about? Join the Lambda World proposal hack! Come and discuss ideas in a friendly and welcoming environment.

How it works
Join us online on the ScalaBridge Discord. We'll split into groups discuss proposal ideas, and review abstracts. By the end, everyone will have at least one proposal.

Frequently asked questions

I've never spoken at a conference before and I'm not sure if I should. Am I really qualified?
Absolutely! Noel Rappin, a RailsConf organizer, has a good article on this here. In short:

  • A conference that was limited to only people that really thought they were the most qualified person to talk would be depressing, if not completely horrific.
  • You are absolutely the most qualified person to tell me what you think on a particular topic.
  • This is how you become qualified. You study something, you teach it to other people.

I'm very junior and new to functional programming. Am I qualified to submit?
Definitely! The community would love to hear from you. In case you missed it, have a read of Noel Rappin's article.

I don't want to speak about a technical subject. Would Lambda World still be interested in my proposal?
Of course! Experience reports are greatly desired. For example, Lambda World would be interested in your experience learning functional programming, hiring or managing functional programmers, teaching others, or avoiding burnout while contributing to the FP ecosystem.

When is Lambda World?
It's from the 23rd to the 24th October. More details are on the Lambda World website .

Should I really speak there?
Yes! As well as being able to share your ideas on a prestigious functional programming stage, you'll be given a free ticket to the conference and even have your travel and accommodation expenses covered.

I'm nervous presenting. Can I get help practicing?
Yes! The London Scala User Group is happy to mentor you throughout the process and give you as much help as you need preparing your talk. We have experienced speakers on hand to give you ideas and feedback throughout, and the opportunity to present to a smaller group.

How do submissions work?
To submit, you'll use the confetti app. We can work on the sections during the hack.

I can't make it to Lambda World. Can I brainstorm ideas for other conferences?
You're welcome to brainstorm ideas for other Scala-related conferences, or even just your local meetup.
