What we're about

A Silent Book Club (https://silentbook.club/) chapter in London.

The rules of Silent Book Club are simple: Read, Wine, Repeat. There's no assigned reading. Reviews are optional. Wine is optional. SBC can happen over coffee, over lunch, once a month or so, with a group of friends or strangers. SBC is about treating yourself to some time devoted to reading in companionable silence and trading book recommendations. And never worrying if you haven't finished the book.

We meet a few times a month online or in person. Everyone is invited, regardless of where you're based!

Online Silent Book Club - BYOB(ook)!

Online event

Hi all, hope you're doing well!

In light of the current situation, I'd like to bring online the meetup for the London Silent Book Club. All are welcome to join, regardless of whether you're based in London or not!

Silent Book Club was created with the idea that reading with friends is awesome. Whether you prefer fiction or non-fiction, we would enjoy your company. Bring your own book and start reading with everyone else, quietly!

Here's a rough itinerary of our schedule:

6:15-6:45pm - Initial chit chat, do a round of introductions and share what you're reading
6:45-8:15pm - Quiet reading time together. We can play some cool low-key ambient music in the background during this period.

To avoid Zoom fatigue, I usually use platforms such as Kumospace and Wonderme for my events. I will post the link to the platform on the day of the event; you will typically not be required to create an account or to download anything. If you prefer Zoom, please check out the events run by my co-hosts Hugh and Murali.

Also, consider joining the London Silent Book Club Facebook group to keep yourself updated about the events and conversation:

Andrew's online session: quiz night!

Online event

YHi everybody!
Welcome to my own silent book club session!
In this one, instead of the usual chat, I'll have some questions for you and we'll do a quiz about books and literature. It's quite a difficult one, but worth trying, I must say. Of course we will also spend the usual hour of silent reading.
Hope you see you then.
Andrew

Andrew's online silent book club session

Online event

YHi everybody!
Welcome to my own silent book club session! It will take place every Friday at 6 pm. It's not going to be very different from the main event of this book club, but it will have some important new features.
The first and most important one is maybe about the introductions: instead of asking each member to introduce the books they are going to read, we will have 30 minutes of informal chat, general introductions, quizzes and updates, then we will directly go into the silent reading session, which will then always start at 6:30 pm. Members will be able to type the titles of the books they are reading on the chat.
Another important feature is that we will have different discussion rooms or areas where people can exchange information about the books they are reading. To prevent spoilers, facilitate conversation and help people find the right group for them, each room or area will have a name (Non-fiction, horror, crime, mystery, literary fiction, etc.) and the titles of the books discussed can be written down in the public chat. Who would like to just chat instead, will be able to do so in the main hall or area.
Last but not least, this event is also going to be the Silent Book Club of the University of Applied Sciences Nordhausen, so you will hopefully have the chance to meet some of our students! For this reason, here on meeup.com there will be an attendance limit of 15/20 people. This number may change depending on how many students will join.
A link will be posted on the main page a few days before the event.
Hope to see you there.
