Details
THE TRIP IS NOW FULL, IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND, ADD YOURSELF TO THE WAITING LIST AND I WILL CONTACT YOU IF SOMEONE DROPS OUT.
Come along on Saturday 28th October for a coach trip to the historic town of Stratford-upon-Avon!
About the trip
Stratford-upon-Avon lies is a pretty Tudor town on the River Avon, 22 miles south east of Birmingham.
'Strat' is an Old English word meaning 'street' and 'ford' means where a crossing forded a river (in order for people and animals to cross).
Stratford is a very pretty town, full of medieval houses and is known as where the playwright William Shakespeare was born, raised, married and died. He was born on 23rd April 1564 in Henley Street, christened in Holy Trinity Church and lived in the town until at least 1585, when he was 21 years old. He left between 1585-1592 and made his name in London, he retired back to Stratford in 1613, aged 49 and died on 23rd April 1616 on his 52nd birthday.
We are planning to visit:
- Anne Hathaway's cottage (his wife, where she grew up)
- Shakespeare's House (where he was born and grew up)
- New Place remains (his house as an adult)
- Holy Trinity Church (where he was baptised, worshiped and is buried)
I know Stratford pretty well, so will give a mini guided tour as we pass some of the other old buildings in the town, as we walk between the houses.
