Details
THE TRIP IS NOW FULL, IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND, ADD YOURSELF TO THE WAITING LIST AND I WILL CONTACT YOU IF A PLACE BECOMES AVAILABLE.
Come along on Saturday 25th October for a coach trip visiting two villages and a town in the county of Northamptonshire!
About the trip
Northamptonshire is a landlocked county in the east Midlands, north of London. Its quite rural, with lots of farmland and market towns. It also has lots of pretty little villages with stone cottages and thatched roofs. Being in the Midlands, the area was where the Industrial Revolution started in the 19th century, so there is lots of remains from that period, along with the purpose built canals.
We will be visiting:
Ashby St. Ledgers
Ashby St. Ledgers is a quite village with many thatched cottages.
The manor house in the village is famous for being a location for the planning of the Gunpowder Plot in 1605 and was then owned by the Catesby family, of which Robert Catesby was the ring leader of the Gunpowder Plot. The 11th century church is dedicated to the french saint St. Leodegar and has many impressive wall paintings inside.
Towcester
Towcester is today a market town, but was the Roman town of Lactodurum, a status that contributes to its claim as one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in Northamptonshire, The town also has a impressive local history museum and a 11th century remains of a motte and bailey castle.
Stoke Bruerne
Stoke Bruerne is a small picture postcard village set around the Grand Union Canal. Today is has many pubs and cafes along the canal and many thatched cottages around the green dating back to the 15th century in the older part of the village. It also has its own canal museum telling the story of the village's industrial past.
