Building bebop lines with Ofer Landsberg

We welcome back to London the fantastic bebop guitarist Ofer Landsberg, who is visiting for the first time since 2023.

This workshop is open to all instruments and will be of value to anyone with an interest in the teachings/methods of Barry Harris and building authentic bebop lines on the guitar.

Ofer Landsberg is one of my favourite musicians and a specialist in the bebop style. He studied in person for several years with the legendary NYC pianist and educator Barry Harris, and Ofer's approach to teaching the music is very much based on the Barry Harris system. When Ofer was based in London a few years ago, I took a number of private and group lessons with him and got a lot from them. If you're interested in Barry Harris or learning how to build authentic bebop lines, this is the workshop for you. His 2023 masterclass for us was a big hit!

You will need to bring your instrument but there is no need for amplification.

I would recommend that you are able to play major and dominant scales, from the root to the seventh, in a number of areas and registers of your instrument, in order to get the most of our time together. This video from Open Studio sets out a number of scale exercises that Barry Harris would run through during his classes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSQVZaAhqm4

If you are not familiar with Ofer Landsberg's playing, a trio set of his originals can be watched on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rABpWkhgvM and his most recent album as a leader 'I'll Be Around', is on Spotify at https://open.spotify.com/album/1tZfYTzCJuhzHzgPbqrKn4?si=TaA9YguPQx-ntYWESEGW9g

This masterclass is presented in partnership with the North London Jazz Collective. They are bringing Ofer to London for a series of performances alongside NYC bassist Paul Sikivie and Parisian tenor saxophonist Neil Saidi.
