What we’re about
This is a group for anyone interested in meeting like-minded people and socialising by participating in hiking adventures. All skill levels are welcome. We started this group in 2018 to help people get connected, travel together and explore amazing natural wonders.
With us you get to:
🚌 Discover destinations that aren’t easily reached by public transport. London Social Hiking is the only hiking group licensed to operate minibuses, making all our experiences truly unique.
🗺️ Be part of a small group (maximum 15 people). Many of you agree that small-group trips offer a more rewarding experience, greater flexibility and better opportunities to connect with fellow hikers and with nature.
🥾 Enjoy hikes led by qualified and knowledgeable Mountain Leaders and Lowland Leaders.
💰 Benefit from great value. London Social Hiking is a not-for-profit group, so the price of each hike simply covers the running costs and is significantly lower than what a commercial operator would charge for a similar trip.

This hike is now FULL. If you missed it, your last chance to join us in 2025 is on Sunday, December 14. Sign up here:
https://www.meetup.com/londonsocialhiking/events/312253202/
Experience Atlantic grey seals at the peak of their breeding season – mid-December is when you'll see the greatest number of seal pups, often reaching a few thousand! A wonderful Christmas gift for yourself – and even better when shared with friends or loved ones. 🎁
We’ve created a list of FAQs to help you.
#################
We’re off to Norfolk! The seals in Norfolk are truly one of Britain's most special sights. Without any doubt, they're an incredible WOW factor and one that you must see!
On this day hike, we'll walk along the top of the sand dunes and enjoy stunning panoramic views across the North Sea. On our way, we'll pass the much-loved grey seal colony at Horsey Beach, which draws thousands of visitors each year, particularly between November and March, when the seals come ashore to breed. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of seals and their pups stretching for as far as the eye can see!
The whole walk is in the Broads National Park – one of fifteen national parks in the UK. You'll discover its iconic windmills, navigable waterways and broads (man-made, shallow lakes). With over 125 miles of lock-free waterways, the Norfolk Broads have more miles of waterway than Venice or Amsterdam, and are an extremely popular boating holiday destination! Locals like to call the Broads ‘the Venice of the East’.
💪 This walk is suitable for all abilities – it is almost entirely flat and done at a very gentle pace to allow us enjoy the nature and take plenty of pictures.
HIKE HIGHLIGHTS
- Watch seals and their young from a close distance at Horsey Gap, home to one of the biggest colonies of grey seals in Britain.
- Take a gentle stroll over the vast open expanse of the golden sand dunes of Winterton Beach – a Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest. The area is a veritable haven for birds and all kinds of wildlife and is widely regarded as having the best sand dunes in Norfolk.
- See the spectacular Horsey Windpump – the youngest and largest windpump in the Norfolk Broads. It was built in 1912 to pump water out from the surrounding land so that it could be used for farming.
- Discover Horsey Mere, often regarded as one of the most beautiful of the northern broads and famous for its internationally important wildlife.
- Walk the newly opened stretch of the England Coast Path – a new National Trail around all of England's coast, which once completed will be the longest coastal walking route in the world (4,500 kilometres in length!).

🌅🗿 Winter Solstice at Stonehenge – Magical Once-In-A-Lifetime Experience
Novotel London West, London, GB#################
We’ve created a list of FAQs to help you.
#################
Join us for our final adventure of 2025 – a rare, once-a-year chance to celebrate the magical Winter Solstice and witness the sunrise over Stonehenge! 🌅❄️
On the shortest day of the year, thousands of people from around the world gather to honour this ancient moment of spiritual and cultural significance. For our ancestors, marking the passage of time was essential. As winter brought darker days and colder nights, people would have longed for the return of light and warmth. Stonehenge’s precise alignment with the solstice sunrise is no coincidence – it may well have been created to celebrate this powerful turning point in the year, when the sun begins its journey back toward longer days.
During the Winter Solstice, music, dancing, singing and centuries-old rituals fill the air. 🥁🎶 The sunrise is welcomed with hopes of renewal, rebirth and good energy. Many come simply to embrace the peaceful, mystical atmosphere and witness the moment together.
It’s also one of the only times you can stand right among the sacred stones and even touch them. The stone circle opens to the public just twice a year – during the Winter and Summer Solstices. On any other day, Stonehenge is roped off and can only be viewed from around 10 metres away. 🚧
And the best part? Entry during these rare solstice celebrations is completely free – while on a normal day, visiting Stonehenge costs around £30.

🐚 (Early Bird Offer) Hiking the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site
Novotel London West, London, GB#################
Early Bird offer: Be among the first 7 to sign up and enjoy the exclusive price of £68 – after that, it’s £78.
Travel in a small group (max 15 people) by a private minibus and discover the most beautiful trails in Britain!
We’ve created a list of FAQs to help you.
#################
Join us for a very special trip as we head to Dorset to discover the dramatic and famous Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage coastline! Stretching 95 miles between Old Harry Rocks and Orcombe Point, the Jurassic Coast – England’s first Natural UNESCO World Heritage Site – is the most geologically diverse coastline in the world. The exposed cliff sections allow us to look back across 185 million years; dinosaur remains have been found here, and it’s a fossil-hunter’s paradise.
On this magnificent coastal hike, we'll visit the iconic natural limestone arch of Durdle Door and the famous scallop-shaped Lulworth Cove with its white pebble beach and crystal clear waters. On our way, we'll see many lovely bays and beaches and enjoy excellent views of the Isle of Portland, which was host of the sailing events of the 2012 Olympics. Most of the route follows the cliff-top trail, with stunning panoramic views of sweeping bays, folded cliffs and the sea. There will be a few steep ascents and descents, but all of your efforts will be well rewarded by the jaw-dropping beauty around you!
We have kept the distance shorter (5 miles / 8 kilometres) to have the difficulty of this trail on the Easy/Moderate border. We'll walk at a slower pace and take many breaks on the uphill sections, as needed. This trip is therefore suitable for all reasonably fit BEGINNERS – a great way to experience hiking before joining our more difficult hikes! 🤩
DISTANCE & DIFFICULTY
Distance: 5 miles (8km).
