About us

This is a group for anyone interested in meeting like-minded people and socialising by participating in hiking adventures. All skill levels are welcome. We started this group in 2018 to help people get connected, travel together and explore amazing natural wonders.

With us you get to:

🚌 Discover destinations that aren’t easily reached by public transport. London Social Hiking is the only hiking group licensed to operate minibuses, making all our experiences truly unique.

🗺️ Be part of a small group (maximum 15 people). Many of you agree that small-group trips offer a more rewarding experience, greater flexibility and better opportunities to connect with fellow hikers and nature.

🥾 Enjoy hikes led by qualified and knowledgeable Mountain Leaders and Lowland Leaders.

💰 Benefit from great value. London Social Hiking is a not-for-profit group, so the price of each hike simply covers the running costs and is significantly lower than what a commercial operator would charge for a similar trip.

The hike will finish at the fishing village of Chiswell, where we'll enjoy well-deserved drinks and refreshments next to Chesil Beach – one of the best sunset locations in Dorset! 🌅

🌳 Hiking Cotswold Villages – The Most Beautiful in Britain

🌳 Hiking Cotswold Villages – The Most Beautiful in Britain

    Novotel London West, London, GB

    #################

    This hike is now FULL.

We’ve created a list of FAQs to help answer your questions.

    #################

Come and join us for a truly magical hike to the Cotswolds to explore some of the most beautiful villages in Britain!

Think honey-coloured cottages, cosy pubs, tiny tearooms and narrow streets. The unspoilt market towns and villages of the Cotswolds have a quintessential English charm found nowhere else in the world. It really is a unique experience!

We'll begin our hike in the charming old wool merchants' town of Chipping Campden, home to one of the prettiest high streets in England. Our trail will take us to the picturesque Cotswold villages of Broadway and Snowshill, through some of the region's best scenery: rolling hills (the “wolds”), ancient woodlands and dramatic escarpments with stunning panoramic views. The entire walk is within the protected Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the largest of the 38 AONBs in England and Wales. After the hike, we'll enjoy a well-deserved pint at the traditional 15th-century Snowshill Arms pub.

    HIKE HIGHLIGHTS

    • Visit the stunning market town of Chipping Campden, famous for its elegant terraced honey-coloured High Street, dating from the 14th century to the 17th century. Admire the imposing medieval church of St James and the 400-year-old Cotswold Market Hall.
    • Discover the picture-postcard village of Broadway (known as the “Jewel of the Cotswolds”), and enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of its many charming, cosy tea rooms.
    • Pass through the outstandingly beautiful, unspoilt Cotswold village of Snowshill.
    • Climb Dover's Hill (230m), with its glorious views over the surrounding countryside. Dover's Hill was the site of the original English Olympic Games, which began here 400 years ago in 1612.
    • Climb to the magnificent Broadway Tower, built around 1800, and enjoy unrivalled panoramic views from one of England's favourite viewpoints.
    • Hike the northern section of the Cotswold Way – one of the 15 National Trails, passing through some of the most stunning and diverse landscapes in Britain.

🦢 NEW Walking Among Swans: Abbotsbury & Weymouth Day Trip

🦢 NEW Walking Among Swans: Abbotsbury & Weymouth Day Trip

    Novotel London West, London, GB

    #################

Explore Britain’s most stunning trails in a small group of up to 15, travelling together by private minibus to beautiful, remote locations not easily reached by public transport.

    #################

Join us on a new wildlife trip to the world's only managed colony of Mute Swans!

I visited the Swannery last year and was so captivated that I knew I had to organise this trip for the group – something fresh and truly special, even for those of you who have been on many trips before.

Nestled in a picturesque setting alongside Fleet Lagoon on the stunning Jurassic Coast, Abbotsbury Swannery is widely regarded as one of Dorset's most unforgettable wildlife experiences. April is a magical time to visit: the swannery is at the height of its nesting season, with hundreds of Mute Swans incubating their eggs. You will have the rare privilege of walking among them and their nests remarkably close – an experience that never fails to leave a lasting impression! The daily mass swan feeding takes place at noon and you're very welcome to take part and feed the swans yourself. With up to 600 Mute Swans jostling and flapping for their share, it is an unforgettable spectacle.

The swannery has a rich and fascinating history, having been founded over 600 years ago by Benedictine monks who originally bred the swans for food. Today the swans are fully protected. Film enthusiasts may also recognise the site from its appearance in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

After visiting the swannery, we'll head to the popular seaside resort town of Weymouth for lunch. You'll have free time to explore its picturesque historic harbour, stroll along the beautiful three-mile sandy Weymouth Beach, recognised as one of the best in the UK, and simply relax by the sea.

Finally, we'll head to see the huge chalk figure carved into the hillside, depicting King George III on his horse. Weymouth was the king's favourite holiday destination, and his patronage transformed the town into a fashionable resort that did much to popularise sea bathing among the upper classes.

This trip is a relaxed day out and suitable for everyone – it's a great chance to experience new places that we normally don't have time for on our hikes! 🤩

    #################

Join London Social Hiking on a trip to the heart of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty! The Wye Valley is well-known for its beautiful river landscapes, dramatic limestone gorges, native woodlands, impressive geology, historic hill forts, castles and abbeys. On this trip, we'll discover the River Wye – Britain's fifth longest river and certainly one of the most scenic. Much of the lower length of the river defines the border between England and Wales. We'll be hiking in Wales, with England on the other shore!

We'll do two short hikes, taking in the highlights of the area. On our first hike, we'll visit the famous viewpoint at Symonds Yat Rock. This limestone outcrop is perched 120 metres above the River Wye and provides spectacular views of the river snaking its way through the gorge. The pleasant woodland trail will take us through nature reserves to the limestone rock towers of the Seven Sisters and the dramatic King Arthur’s Cave, which provided a refuge for mammoths, hyenas and rhinoceros in prehistoric times. We'll cross the Indiana Jones style suspension bridge and also pass the distinctive red and white house, which famously featured in the Netflix series “Sex Education” (Otis's and Jean's home).

After resting and having lunch and hot drinks, we'll take a short drive to the start of the second walk. This hike features the picturesque viewpoint known as the Eagle's Nest. The Eagle's Nest boasts unrivalled views down the Wye Valley to the rocks of Wintour's Leap, Chepstow, the Severn bridges and the estuary. The superb woodland path will lead us along the edge of an escarpment to the extraordinary Giant’s Cave and the Grotto, before finally descending to Chepstow and its beautifully preserved, 11th-century Chepstow Castle.

This trip is suitable for reasonably fit BEGINNERS – a great way to experience hiking before joining our more difficult hikes! 🤩
