Protect the rights of protest and citizenship
Details
If you've ever organised, joined or otherwise supported any marches or protests (whether about veganism or anything else) the contents of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill should be extremely worrying. This Bill risks criminalising protests (and online organising of protests) with imprisonment of up to 10 years! It also allows stop and search without suspicion, criminalisation of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller lifestyles, and so on...
Meanwhile, the Nationalities and Borders Bill would grant the government the right to remove British citizenship from anyone entitled to another nationality - including friends and family members, members of London Vegan Meetup, and probably some of your favourite vegan caterers!
But aside from these vegan connections, these are two pieces of Draconian legislation that everyone should oppose, vegan or not. And not everything we do has to be about veganism (e.g. walks, art gallery visits, etc.)
So, while I can't say that I particularly enjoy marches, protests or even crowds, I think it's important to protect our rights to demonstrate and to British citizenship. And I hope you'll join me.
