London Vegan Meetup is participating in the annual Made in Hackney Veg Dash to raise money for this important vegan charity.
Support your community during the cost of living crisis with vital plant-based food and meals, whilst having fun with your London Vegan Meetup buddies.
Extra note: if you cannot make this fundraising event but would like to support the vegan charity, you can donate online here.
Join the Made in Hackney fun-draising "Veg Dash" on Saturday 30th September 2023 (11am kick off) - an event for all runners, gentle joggers or walkers - where there's no pressure to run or be the fastest. We'll be sent on a 10-stop hunt around Hackney looking for fruit and vegetable themed locations.
We are entering as a team and will walk the course together!
Money we raise will go directly to Made in Hackney, the vegan cookery school in Clapton that supports at-risk and vulnerable community members so they can access nutritious, plant-based food.
Start/End point: Made In Hackney cookery school, Liberty Hall, 128 Clapton Commons, London, E5 9AA.
What is the Made In Hackney Veg Dash?
Made in Hackney decided to put on their own fundraising event as ticket prices are high for charities to buy places in official half marathons & other events. They also wanted to create an event that wasn't just about running so more people could get involved. And that also celebrated their love of eating more fruit and vegetables.-
We'll be directed to 10 locations around Hackney (that form a circuit to the start/finish at Liberty Hall).
-
On arrival on the day we'll be given a route map showing the 10 locations and a suggested route. As it's a circle from the start/finish we can decide which way round to go.
-
At each location our team takes a selfie to show we were there.
-
There will be a free raffle for everyone that joins in to win an amazing prize, as well as a prize for best costume (fruit and veg themed costumes welcome, but not mandatory).
When does it start?
Please arrive from 10am as the event will start at 11am on Saturday 30th September. There will be a warm up from 10.30am.
When does it finish?
Made in Hackney expect everyone to be finished by 1-2pm unless they really want to take their time enjoying the circuit! They need to close the end venue by 3pm.
What is the location?
Go to Liberty Hall, 128 Clapton Commons, E5 9AA. It's a black & white building on the edge of the park. You'll see people inside & outside on the day. More directions: https://madeinhackney.org/contact
Do I have to walk with the group?
No, you can walk with us or jog on your own... or a mix! It's about having a fun time with a group of friends and helping to raise money for charity. It's very relaxed.
How long is the course?
They've designed the course to be under 5 miles and can be walked in 1.5 hours. So they expect it to take people 1-1.5 hours with stops if jogging and 1.5-2 hours if walking. Is there an age limit?
Children are welcome to be part of our team but anyone under the age of 16 we would expect to be accompanied by an adult. There is also have a children’s treasure hunt route in Springfield Park suitable for younger children. What are the prizes for?
Made in Hackney will be giving prizes for the team with the best fruit & vegetable costumes. There will also be a free raffle for everyone that comes on the day.
How should I fundraise? and how much? You can ask your friends and family to donate to the London Vegan Meetup supports Made in Hackney localgiving page here:
https://localgiving.org/London-Vegan-Meetup-Veg-DashIf you collect cash from supporters, you can go to the above link to make the donation on behalf of your friends. The goal for our group is £500 but perhaps we can go higher?!
What should I wear?- As there are prizes for best fancy dress costumes, we'd love to see as many people as possible doing their best fruit and vegetable impressions. There is loads of inspiration online for homemade costumes that can be cheaply replicated!
- Made in Hackney recommend also wearing something you feel comfortable walking in. You DO NOT have to wear a costume to participate.
What should I bring with me?
- Try not to bring too much.
- Made in Hackney will have some storage for bags.
- Please bring your own water bottle. Water bottles can be refilled at the cookery school at the start/end.
What if the weather is bad? Will it be cancelled?
The event can go ahead unless it is very serious weather
Is there a loo?
Yes, there is access to a loo at Liberty Hall (start and end point). -
