As you may or may not know, I haven’t really attended any London Vegan Meetup events since January 2020. (Some of the reasons are here and here.) I also can’t honestly say I enjoy marches or protests at the best of times!

However, I consider it a moral obligation to use any means that I have at my disposal to urge the politicians and media of the UK and the USA to call for a ceasefire in Gaza. Therefore, I am organising a Meetup to join the main London march on 11 November from Hyde Park to the US embassy.

We’ll meet at the Animals in War Memorial just off Park Lane at 11:30, then join the main march at around 11:50.

Since Meetup.com limits the number of characters allowed for an event description, please see the comments for various questions that you might have. These include:

  1. “A ceasefire? Doesn’t Israel have the right to defend itself?”
  2. “Isn’t this an antisemitic hate march?”
  3. “Isn’t it offensive to do this on Armistice Day?”
  4. “What about the hostages? Hamas? Russia-Ukraine? Congo? Sudan?”
  5. “What has this got to do with veganism?”
  6. “What should I do if I get arrested?”

Additional legitimate questions are welcome. But please note that we do not have the inclination, obligation or resources to engage with whataboutery (aka whataboutism), “sealioning”, or other engagement that we have reason to believe is in bad faith.

Please also note that we will not tolerate antisemitism, Islamophobia or xenophobia, and we remind members that group rules include the following:

  • Ensure that your posts (and comments) are relevant to the group (or event) and civil…
  • Avoid prejudice such as… racism or xenophobia… religious intolerance or religious fundamentalism…
  • Don't harass, attack, insult, abuse or shame other members. And if you have an issue with the conduct of another member, please contact us, rather than attempting to take them to task yourself (as doing so may also be considered an "attack").
