Feedback for Fiction Writers (Online)
Details
Online feedback sessions are here again. For writers who prefer to meet others from the comfort of their own home, or writers who find it tough to attend our feedback workshops in person.
Our usual format won't work as well online and so I'm going to trial a few different approaches until I feel we have the right mix of word count and feedback time. Sharing on screen is harder to asses but it works in the same way as our live workshops with the group discussion being key to the feedback.
In this workshop, three writers will be invited to read a sample of up to 2,500words by sharing their pages on screen. If you want to read, book your place and then comment 'I'd like to read' and your spot will be confirmed.
If you are reading, please could you arrive 5-10 mins early so we can test your ability to share your pages before everyone else arrives? Thanks so much. I'll be online from 6:45pm. I'll be using Google Meet to host these workshops.
When we come to feedback, we'll go around the virtual room to ask about feedback notes for the writer as they won't have the usual written comments scribbled or marked up on page. We'll discuss any other comments, feedback and respond to questions from the writer who read to the group. We'll spend about 40mins on each piece but we'll see how we do. Timing is going to be a challenge but I'll try my best.
If you'd prefer not to give any feedback when asked, that's fine. Not everyone will have things to say about each piece. Sometimes others say it for you.
See the details for May 21st session for a different mix of word count and feedback timing, and if you have questions, please ask by posting a comment below.
Tickets: £10 for hosting, moderating and expertise. Please follow the steps to pay via PayPal when you RSVP. Places are limited to 15 writers per session.
Please note: refunds and credits can only be offered if the event is cancelled by admin. This happens very infrequently. Do check your schedule before you book your place to prevent any diary clashes. We cannot offer refunds or credit for another session if you decide not to attend on the day.
Location: This session will be hosted online via Google Meet. The link to join will be visible once you've booked your place.
These workshops are hosted by me - Lisa Goll, Boss Lady at London Writers' Cafe - I'm a publishing professional with more than twenty years of working within the publishing industry. Added to that, I've been leading LWC workshops for writers since 2010 too. See more about me on LinkedIn or Insta me @LisasShare @LondonWritersCafe
One final thing...writers are so last minute (in my experience) that sharing the piece beforehand via Google docs for circulation would be great but I'll spend my life chasing writers to upload on time, or navigating complicated version histories, so I'd rather keep to our live reading on the night format for our online sessions.
