Longmont Walks Goes to Waterton Canyon!
Details
### TYPE: Walk | PACE: Moderate | TERRAIN: Paved Multi-Use Trail | DISTANCE: Approx. 3.5 miles
We’re heading to Waterton Canyon for a classic Front Range walk with big views, a wide paved trail, and a good chance of spotting bighorn sheep along the way. (I took the pic for the event!!). I love this hike so much and it is really so beautiful and with so many great wild life viewing opportunities.
This is an out-and-back on a smooth, gently graded route that follows the South Platte River into the foothills with the waterton reservoir runing right by it.
The trail is fully paved, making it accessible and straightforward, with plenty of room to spread out and settle into a steady pace.
If folks are up for it, we can stop at Homegrown Tap & Dough on the way back for food and post-walk hanging.
Walking Movement Leader:
Jorge: I walk and I squawk.
How to Prepare:
Wear comfortable walking shoes suitable for paved trails and bring water. Waterton can be cooler at the start and warmer once the sun comes up, so layers are recommended. There’s little shade, so sun protection is a good idea. As always, listen to your body and adjust as needed.
Meeting Site:
Walk Start: Waterton Canyon Trailhead | 9:30 AM
The parking lot for the trailhead is huge. There are some bathrooms and a small building right by the entrance when you turn into the parking lot. We will be by that building at the entrance. Reach out if you can't find us, my number is below.
