We are thrilled to welcome a group of speakers on long-term changes in medicine to our last meetup of the year.

Guest curator, Jessica Bland, researcher in the futures team at Nesta and lead author of The NHS in 2030 (http://www.nesta.org.uk/publications/nhs-2030-people-powered-and-knowledge-powered-health-system), hosts four speakers who bring expertise in history and future of healthcare. They are linked by a mutual interest in the role of public and political interpretation of medical information.

Anna Maerker (http://kcl.academia.edu/AnnaMaerker), Senior Lecturer in History of Science at King's College London: on the role of anatomical models in public understanding of medicine in the 19th Century.

Lydia Nicholas (https://twitter.com/LydNicholas) Collective Intelligence researcher at Nesta: on editing a collection of science fiction stories (http://www.nesta.org.uk/blog/we-need-talk-about-antimicrobial-resistance) about futures where the battle against antibacterial resistance hasn’t been won.

Mark Bale (https://twitter.com/balemj) Deputy Director in the Health Science and Bioethics Division at the Department of Health: on the ethical frameworks for the UK’s 100,000 Genome Projec (http://www.genomicsengland.co.uk/)t and the value of horizon scanning inside government.

Alison O'Mara-Eves (http://iris.ucl.ac.uk/iris/browse/profile?upi=AJOMA15) Senior Researcher in the Institute of Education at University College London: on managing systematic reviews of medical and health evidence for policy makers in the age of information deluge.

The event will begin promptly at 6.30pm with 10 minutes from each speaker, with opportunity for discussion after each and with all four until 8pm. There will be tea and coffee available and we’ll head to the White Swan pub afterwards for those who want to continue the debate.
