Hike Leader: Fearless Leader Jose
Ok we are doing this because I havn't done this in a long time and I like this place. It is an old military base cold war relic which closed down when it became obsolete. it is a cool place to visit and explore. It is now a park with a large platform still up in which we still can climb up on. you can see the old signs that give many details about the place.
When: Sunday March 3,[masked]:30am
Directions: Ok trust goggle maps or your GPS and you might get Lost like some poor people last time. In other words DON'T TRUST GOGGLE MAPS OR YOUR GPS----- LISTEN AND FOLLOW MY DIRECTIONS. THOSE DUMB THINGS THINK DIRT ROADS THAT ARE CLOSED AND UNPASSABLE ARE STILL OPEN!!!!!!!! THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO GET THERE SO LISTEN UP!!!!!!! From where ever you are get to the 405 freeway. head towards west L.A . In west L.A. you will exit sunset blvd. (That is near the getty center) Then you will turn west heading towards the ocean. Then you will turn right heading north on Mandeville Canyon Road. You will be on that road for a while and I do mean for a while. Then you will reach Garden Land Road. Find a place to park and I should be there. you can only park on the left side of the street and on garden land road. It takes me 20 minutes from the freeway to the meeting point. my travel time from downtown L.A. is 40 minutes
What to bring: Hiking shoes, water, snack, dress for weather, hat, sunblock
Hike Level: Advanced beginner 4 out of 10. 950 feet gain and loss, 5 to 6 miles roundtrip walk up slow, walk medium downhill. around 2 1/2 hours, maybe a little longer my ankle hurts
This is a very cool area to go to and explore. The place used to be a military base for the cold war, Now it is a park where we can look and explore to our hearts content. It has a five story platform in which we can take stairs up and have good view of the surrounding area.
Hike description: The hike is very easy in terms of difficulty. No cliffs, no hard parts. The hike is just one trail and the rest of the hike is on fireroads. but it is going up high and you will get a workout. There is also no shade on the trails and roads, so this hike will only be done in cool weather. we will do a big loop and the word of the day is left. In other words, at all forks of the road we will make a left and we will get back to the cars. So when we get to the base, we will relax, enjoy the views and have our snacks. Then go back down to our cars kids allowed but you are responsible for them dogs ok but with a leash at all times Only Heavy rain cancels. Light rain will not cancel.
