Ok I havn't been there in quite a while. Most people call this hike the arroyo seco hike. But I call it the Dam waterfall hike. Basically we follow a mostly dry riverbed for a long time, and I mean a long time to a dam that has water flowing over it. I wanted to go again so I decided to take the group with me. Last time we went some people went in the water and went under the waterfall.
When: Saturday march 16,[masked]:00 am
Hike Level: advanced beginner, 600 feet gain/loss RT, 7-8 miles roundtrip(not sure about this, someone bring a GPS to confirm), 3 1/2 hours, no steep areas, 50/50 shade/sun. hardest thing is the river crossings.
tHERE ARE ONLY DROP TOILETS ON THIS HIKE, SO EMPTY THE TANK BEFORE YOU GET HERE.
What to bring: WATER,snack,WATER, hiking shoes, water, hat, water, sunblock, water, and did I mention water
Directions: from where ever you are get to the 210 freeway and you are going to head to Altadena, that is west of pasadena and east of La Canada flintridge. Your going to exit Windsor ave. The freeway signs might say Windsor/arroyo. arroyo is for south. But once you exit windsor you will head north toward the mountains after you drive a couple of miles the street ends and you will see a parking lot on the left. Meet there.
Hike description: This is a very nice hike, we will start right next to JPL and walk next to it. Then we will walk the pretty arroya seco watershed for a while, then we will get to a campsite and we will stop for a potty break/ water break. then we will keep going til we get to the dam. we will rest and eat and drink. Then we will go back the same way.
Anyways this place is great and has been hiked for decades. Has big trees, rocks and scenery. its a great hike to take in the morning.
Dogs ok but on a leash at all times
