Hike to a shipwreck

Hike leader: Fearless leader Jose

Ok this is a real shipwreck we are going to. It was called the dominator and it wrecked off the coast a long time ago by the looks of the rust. Also listen up on this one, I am only going to do this once, unless a cute woman asks me to do it again :-) But come to this hike you see dolphins sometimes and seals and whales if we are lucky and the sounds of the ocean and waves are sootheing. the only bad thing is the rocks.

When: May 5,[masked]:00 am

GO to the bathroom before you get here!!!!!!!!!!!!! no toliets anywhere, unless you jump in the water

What to bring: Plenty of Water, hat, sunblock, good walking shoes, walking sticks if you have bad balance, snack

Hike level: Advanced beginner 6 miles roundtrip, 300 feet elevation gain/loss, 4 hours

Hike description: Ok why does it take 4 hours roundtrip to walk 6 miles there and back. It is simple we walk on beach rocks half the time! We start on the bluff 300 feet above the beach and walk down to the beach. we pass the surfers and start walking on the rocks on and off til we get there. Then we take the same way back.

Rain cancels

Dogs ok but on leash at all times

email me if you have any questions

Hello all. I'm recovering from a surgery I had a few weeks back. I was eager to try and make this hike (It sounds so fun!), but my doctor gave me the big NO. I'm changing my and my fiance's RSVPs to "not attending" that way someone else can attend. :) Hope you guys have fun and hope another hike like this comes up this summer!

I got this off of a diving website. -
The wreck SS Dominator grounded in heavy fog March[masked] having no modern navigation equipment and getting stranded on the reef, carrying 10,000+ tons of wheat and beef, heavy surf, wind and high tide prevented it's recovery. 2 days of trying the crew abandoned ship It was a WWII Liberty Ship 441 ft long by 57 feet wide. As of now the wreckage is almost gone by eroding forces and salvage.

    2 · April 21, 2013

    • Thom

The post was talking about wreckage under water being scarce. There appears to be lots of wreckage on the shore from Google Maps photos, as Jose has indicated.

    Hi!
I'd love to come but see no spots are left. Is there anyway I can be on a "waiting list"? Thank you

    1 · April 16, 2013

  • Tiffany

Can I get in if someone cancels??? This sounds amazing!!!

    April 16, 2013

  • Thom

What is the show up percentage of those that are in the solid list? From my limited experience, the show up percentage overall is usually 50% or less. It would be nice if everyone who is not going to show to have the courtesy to change their RSVP at least 24 hours in advance. I am sure the organizers would appreciate it, not to mention those on a waitlist.

    April 15, 2013

    • jose

actually I know it is 50 % and i am counting on it. If everybody showed up that said yes, there would be too many people. In other words, I put the rsvp limit at 90 so 45 people would be at the hike. That doesn't mean people should show up without rsvp'ing yes. If people started doing that, a bad trend would develop and the most popular hikes would have 200 people just showing up. As a hike leader, in fact any hike leader wouldn't be able to lead that hike. Problems with safety, parking, managing that many people and many unforseen problems just come up.

      April 15, 2013

  • Don

Hope you've consulted the tide table. This can be problamatic at high tide.

    April 15, 2013

    • jose

I did look at susans post above. It might not look like it, but I know what I am doing. That's why we are starting at 11:00am. We should at the shipwreck exactly at low tide

      1 · April 15, 2013

    • Don

Jose, I have no doubt that you know what you're doing. That's why I like your hikes.

      April 15, 2013

  • jose

Ok I had a record of 12 emails asking to put on the waitlist or to let me in. I will say this only once NO Waitlists for jose's events! Those annoying things never work and the people on the waitlist that get into the event have a showup rate of 10-20 percent. This is a number from experience. So if you want in just wait til somebody drops out and take their place. I will also do this again sometime in summer. Also I will increase the rsvp limit

    April 15, 2013

  • jose

holy crap! It filled up in one day! I never guess these things right! I thought only 30 people max would say yes to this. Thisfilled up faster than the kayak!

    April 15, 2013

  • Estellaleigh F.

Jose, put me on the wait list, please.

    April 15, 2013

  • MB S.

Jose...this sounds like another adventure! Be well in the mean time and see you on the 5th. :)

    April 15, 2013

  • Nanette P.

Please let us know if dogs are welcome. I know the trails are dog friendly, but is the group? :)

    April 15, 2013

  • jose

ok i should have been more specific, bring shoes that you won't slip on and are comfortable with. For me that is hiking boots. for some people its tennis shoes, but I would suggest hiking boots. because they protect you from messing up your ankles

    April 14, 2013

  • monica m.

Do you suggest u bring my hiking boots or my tennis shows w/slight tread.
