harder Baldwin Hills Ridgeline loop hike, plus Indian food at Bawarchi

Take 2 hours EVERY MONDAY--we get a 360 degree view from Downtown L.A. to Malibu to Palos Verdes and can watch the sunset.

WHEN: 6:00 pm to sunset, which is when the rangers start telling us to go home.

MEET: Lots of cool people

MEET WHERE?: at the Kenneth Hahn park--at the top of the Baldwin Hills.

DIFFICULTY: Hard at the start, 200 feet elevation gain on a steep, but short trail. Then we do the remaining 90% of the hike on civilized relatively level trails, but there will be a few more gradual uphills.

Lots of restrooms and water fountains.

PARKING: free. (except weekends and holidays)

DOGS: are allowed in the park on a leash

BRING WATER, COMFORTABLE SHOES, MAYBE A HAT IF IT'S HOT...

LEGAL STUFF: by going on this hike, you agree to assume all risks of this hike, and that no one at Meetup including the organizer is responsible for your safety. See the Meetup terms of service especially paragraph 6.2:

http://www.meetup.com/terms/

FREEWAY DIRECTIONS: the closest freeway to this hike is the 10. Take the La Cienega Blvd offramp and go south 1 mile (past the Target store--La Cienega turns into a freeway with limited exits and no way to make a u-turn) Continue to the park entrance at the first bridge over La Cienega. You will see a big sign saying "Kenneth Hahn park". Get in the right lane on La Cienega to exit onto the ramp to the bridge. Turn left at the top of the bridge. Continue into the park past the little parking fee shack. Do not pay to park (only required on weekends and holidays.) We will park at the first lot on the left after entering the park--there is a sign saying "Olympic Forest". Park in the first spaces you see ofter the "Olympic Forest" sign. The trail is located on the ridgeline to the east

OPTIONAL DINNER: 8:15 PM-- At Bawarchi, located at southwest corner of Venice Blvd. and Motor avenue

I'm psyched about this hike but am recovering from a slight injury -- could you give a difficulty rating for thing, 1 - 10? or on the 1 - 5 scale? Or you know, beginning, intermediate, adv. intermediate, etc.?

the terrain at this location is totally fun and not to crazy, I think you'll be just fine. However, I don't know anything about your injury

Eli, the first uphill is advanced intermediate, but it only lasts for about 5 minutes. Then the rest of the hike is intermediate at most. Also, I have a doctor visit before the hike that may require us to keep it entirely intermediate level of difficulty. We'll see.
