We will hike the historic Stagecoach trail from the west San Fernando Valley up to the top of the Simi Hills, then cross the 118 Freeway and climb to the top of Rocky Peak (which is part of the taller Santa Susana Mountains)
Great views of the San Fernando and Simi Valleys plus Hot, sweaty attractive fellow hikers
LENGTH: 5 TO 8 MILES--DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU START
TRAIL DIFFICULTY: this is subjective; I'd say 4 out of 10. The Stagecoach trail is level and easy except for the portion that goes uphill. The Rocky Peak trail is a wide fire-road, and gains elevation pretty constantly.
ELEVATION GAIN: starts at 936 feet; ends at 2714 feet at the top of Rocky Peak.
STARTING TIME/NOTE OF MERCY:
11 AM: this hike has two starting points: at 11 am at the corner of Lassen/Valley Circle/Andorra/Baden. (Look at your google maps! This is just south of the entrance to Oakwood Cemetery). We will gain 550 feet in 1 1/2 miles.
NOON: Or if you prefer to start at a higher elevation: we will also meet at noon at the trail crossing at 1500 feet elevation at the Rocky Peak Road offramp from the 118 freeway.
PRINTABLE MAP OF HIKE AND MEETING PLACES:
PHOTOS OF THE HIKE:
BRING: SUNSCREEN, 2 QUARTS OF WATER, HAT, MUNCHIES, FAX MACHINES
DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEADS: Take the 101 freeway or the 118 freeway west to the Topanga Canyon Blvd offramp. From the 101 go north to Lassen Street. From the 118 freeway, go south to Lassen Street. Go west on Lassen all the way until it runs into the confluence of Valley Circle/Baden and Andorra Streets. We will meet there at 11 AM.
NOON meeting spot: take the 118 freeway west and get off at the Rocky Peak road offramp. We will meet there at noon.
