A LOOP THROUGH LOTS OF AMAZING ROCKS AND CAVES IN THE SANTA SUSANA MOUNTAINS VIA THE HUMMINGBIRD, ROCKY PEAK AND CORRIGANVILLE TRAILS
--TRAILHEAD: located just north of the 118 Freeway in Simi Valley at the Kuehner Road offramp.
--THERE WILL BE THREE STOPS ALONG THE WAY TO CLIMB ON AND EXPLORE ROCKS AND CAVES
--Elevation Gain: we start at 1200 feet, and hit 2175 feet at the "Rock House"
--Distance: I forget, maybe 7 miles plus assorted rock exploration
--SO: expect to be hiking and climbing rocks from 2 to 6pm
We start at the Hummingbird trailhead, and climb 1000 feet to the Rocky Peak fireroad. Along the way are numerous cool rocky outcrops and an area of caves which we will stop at for maybe an hour of exploring. At the top of this trail is the Rock House (a big cave-room) where we can enjoy great views of the Valleys (on a clear day you can see 60 miles to the ocean in Ventura).
Then we head back down the Rocky Peak fire road and cross over the 118 freeway bridge and turn west on the Stagecoach trail as it enters the old Corriganville movie ranch. There are several sources of cool drinking water here and porta potties and SOME SHADE!!!!. We will then climb up the big rocks there, and then loop back through a neighborhood to our cars and skateboards.
I'M NOT YOUR MOM....Bring: 3 quarts of water, a hat, sunscreen, musical instruments, comfy hiking shoes and snacks
START TIME: 2:00PM. What this means: 2:00pm! (unless I am late, which happens once in a while, the latest I wait to start my hikes is ten minutes). So if you have a really good reason, like your dog ate your hiking shoes, call or text me at[masked] with your excuse. If you miss us, just follow the trail sign and go east up the hill for around a half hour and we will be goofing around at the caves.
