Details

TWO HIKES--DO ONE OR BOTH!!!

PART 1: MEET AT NEWCOMB'S RANCH RESTAURANT PARKING LOT AT 9:30 AM. At 9:45 am we will car-caravan 2 & 1/2 miles to the base of JohnHenge #5 (THE SOUTHERN-MOST HENGE). There is a wide paved parking area ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD, 1/2 mile past the Camp Valcrest sign.

We will make a quick climb up a hill, gaining around 200 feet. Then we will climb all over the beautiful granite formations. After returning to our cars, we will drive for 15 minutes to parking for Hike #2

If you miss us at Newcomb's Ranch, we will be at these GPS coordinates at 10AM:

N 34.34429 W 117.97128

OR USE THIS MAP--"B" is Newcomb's ranch

"D" is the parking area for JohnHenge #5

PART 2: WATERFALL HIKE STARTS AT 12:00 NOON

We will hike and slosh to the two Buckhorn waterfalls, height ranging from 20 feet to 100 feet, AT COOPER CANYON IN THE PINES IN THE ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST, about a 6 mile out and back hike.

THEN.......WE WILL HIKE TO THE BASE OF THE 100 FOOT BUCKHORN FALLS. (I have not hiked to the bottom of these falls yet, so this is new for me, too.)

BRING SHOES YOU CAN GET WET!!!

THERE ARE LOTS OF ROCKS TO CLIMB AND MONKEY AROUND UPON

We will meet at the Buckhorn day use area parking area on the roadside. Look for a big sign that says "BUCKHORN DAY USE PARKING AREA".

PARK IN THE WIDE PAVED AREA ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY JUST BEFORE THIS SIGN (I am assuming that you are coming from L.A.):

A stinky national forest restroom is at the Day Use Area.

GPS COORDINATES: N 34.34581 W 117.92064

CARS DO NOT NEED A NATIONAL FOREST ADVENTURE PASS

From the parking location, we will walk down the Buckhorn campground entry road and explore TWO areas of waterfalls along the Burkhart trail

We will return to our cars the same way. But backwards. And walking on our hands. (just checking if you've read down this far...)

DIFFICULTY: MODERATE, 1100 feet elevation loss getting there, then 1100 feet elevation gain on the way back

Expect some creek bouldering
