We will climb the famous Cahuenga Peak....the tallest peak in Griffith Park, from the West side...which is rarely in our hiking repertoire.
Directions: From the Hollywood Freeway exit at Barham. Go north on Barham to the intersection with Lake Hollywood Dr. Turn onto Lake Hollywood Dr and follow it as it winds uphill to the intersection with Wonderview Dr. Park on Lake Hollywood Dr near the top of the steep hill. Lake Hollywood can be seen below.
We'll hike up Wonderview Dr past a gate to a trail that leads up the south side of Cahuenga Peak, first visiting "the lone tree." From Cahuenga Peak we'll follow a rough trail over to Mt Lee above the Hollywood Sign. Return the same way.
Hike involves approximately 4 miles and 1,000 feet of gain.
This moderately strenuous hike is not suitable for beginners. Participants must wear sturdy boots -- no tennies! Bring water, sun block, and a wide brimmed hat.
