Rock scrambling/rock hopping at Santa Ynez Waterfall and Eagle Rock

This is one of my favorites hikes. It's got a little bit of everything.

We will meet at 11:00 AM at the Santa Ynez Canyon Park Trail Head. Park on Palisades Drive, 1.7 miles from Sunset.

If you prefer a shorter hike than 10 miles, you can meet us at the trailhead on Vereda de la Montura at 11:35 AM. That would be about 8 miles. (17399 Vereda De La Montura, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272).

Park on Palisades Drive (above) and meet in front of the Santa Ynez Canyon Park sign.

We'll follow this trail through some green green vegetation to the trailhead on Vereda De La Montura.

follow the waterfall trail out and back

and rock hop the stream to the waterfall (There might be water in the stream after Sunday's storm)

for the daring, climb the wall with the help of this rope.

go back to the main trail and walk through the “enchanted forest,”

then climb up on an exposed ridge to some great views

and rock scrambling sites.

We'll climb around and eat lunch at Eagle Rock.

Then head back the same way we came to the cars.

FREE Street parking at Santa Ynez Canyon Park Trail Head: Palisades Drive (1.7 miles from Sunset), Pacific Palisades, CA 90272.

Hike basics: approx. 10.3 miles RT

~ 1000 to 1400 feet elevation gain

~ 4 hours. Shady at beginning, exposed and scenic in middle and summit.

You won’t need hiking shoes, but they are better than running shoes for gripping the rocks and trail going up and down the hills. If you have waterproof hiking shoes, even better.

What to bring:
Basic first aid (tiny cuts and blisters can happen)
Water (2-3 liters) and/or an electrolyte drink
Snacks and/or lunch
Phone and/or CAMERA
Sunscreen (always!) and hat; layered clothing

We will leave at 11:10 AM and should be back around 3:30 - 4:00 PM. If you're late, you can catch up with us on the trail.

I hike at a moderate pace. We'll stop at the waterfall and along the way to do some rock scrambling and photo ops. We’ll stop to eat lunch and snacks at Eagle Rock for 30 or so minutes.

Optional: Reel Inn on PCH (http://www.reelinnmalibu.com/menu.php) after the hike.

There are bathrooms at Trippett Ranch, but it's a long way from the start and a side trip from the plan. Be sure to plan for that.

We’ll be traveling through Topanga State Park. Your furry friend is not allowed even on a leash; you can get ticketed $$$.

CARPOOL!! You might meet people you like and it’s great for the environment.
