Cahuenga Peak via north ridge

Details
Hike level: 6/10
Distance: 4 miles
Not for Beginners
This uncommon hiking in the Griffith Park...seen from a different perspective.
Driving Directions: Exit the Hollywood Freeway at Barham, go north on Barham to Lake Hollywood Drive. Turn onto Lake Hollywood Drive and follow it as it winds around going uphill. At the intersection with Wonderview Drive, park near the top of the hill on Lake Hollywood Drive as it starts steeply downhill.

This is a strenuous hike over steep terrain. Approximate specs are 4 miles and 1,000' gain.
http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/6/f/d/event_34790941.jpeg We will hike on a service road (poor condition with some brush) around to the north side of Cahuenga Peak, then hike up a steep ridge to the summit.
Once on the summit of Cahuenga we may hike over to the Hollywood sign or we may not, depending on the wishes of the group and how hot it is. (This would add some distance and gain.)
In any event we will hike down via the short trail on the south side of the mountain, stopping briefly to admire the Lone Tree.
Hikers must wear sturdy, lug sole boots - no tennies! Wear wide brim hat and use sunscreen. Bring water.
This hike is NOT suitable for beginners. Hikers must be in condition to keep up a moderately fast pace, and be able to hike up a long, steep ridge that is loose in places. There is no shade on the ridge. http://img1.meetupstatic.com/3250963246259337556533/img/smileys/cool.gif
Nonetheless, we will have fun
