Hike in pines 2 Waterfalls at Buckhorn, & potluck dinner: Angeles Forest-HWY 2

First (OPTIONAL):
12 noon: Lunch at Buckhorn Day Use Area.

Then:

12:30: BEGIN TRAIL-HIKE DOWNHILL TO TOP OF 100 FOOT TALL BUCKHORN FALLS via the Burkhart Trail. Hang around at the top of the falls for 1/2 hour, or optionally climb down the falls.
Then we return to the Burkhart trail and continue downhill to Cooper Falls and hang out there for 1/2 hour. Then we hike back uphill the way that we came, getting back to our cars at 5:00

6:00 to 8:00PM: drive 45 minutes back towards LA. Stop for optional potluck dinner and sunset watching at Red Box Station, located at intersection of Highway 2 and Mount Wilson Road. PLEASE BRING SOME FOOD TO SHARE, COMFY FOLDING CHAIRS, A BLANKET, ETC

HIKE DISTANCE: 7 miles

DIFFICULTY: MODERATE, 1100 feet elevation loss getting there, then 1100 feet elevation gain on the way back

BRING SHOES YOU CAN GET WET!!!

WEATHER: forecast is a high of 71 degrees at Red Box, which is lower in elevation than Buckhorn. So bring a sweater for the dinner.

THERE ARE LOTS OF ROCKS TO CLIMB AND MONKEY AROUND UPON!!!!
But the rock scrambling is optional

WHERE TO MEET?:

Meet at the Buckhorn day use area parking area on the roadside. Look for a big sign that says (duh.....) "BUCKHORN DAY USE PARKING AREA".

PARK IN THE WIDE PAVED AREA ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY JUST BEFORE THIS SIGN (I am assuming that you are coming from L.A.):

A stinky national forest restroom is at the Day Use Area.

IF YOU PARK ALONG THE ROAD, YOU DO NOT NEED A $5 ADVENTURE PASS. IF YOU PARK IN THE DAY USE AREA PARKING LOT NEAR THE RESTROOMS, YOU DO NEED AN ADVENTURE PASS. (If you park with no adventure pass, the fine is $5.....wooooooooooo!)
