Start at Sooky Goldman Nature Center parking lot. We'll go south, explore Franklin Canyon's shady trails above Beverly Hills, see pretty Franklin lake
DISTANCE: around 3 or 4 miles
DIFFICULTY: Franklin canyon is easy to moderate.
BRING: 2 quarts of water, hat, sunscreen, comfortable hiking shoes. There are restrooms and drinking water available
FROM THE VALLEY: Take Coldwater Canyon south to Mulholland. At this confusing intersection, go straight through onto Franklin canyon drive. Go about a half mile downhill on this narrow road, and after leaving the residential portion of the street, there will be a video-activated stop sign. Be careful, it gives out expensive tickets for rolling stops. Turn left here, into the huge dirt parking lot, which is for the Sooky Goldman nature center. We will meet at the south end of the lot. If you continue south on the road and see the lake, you have gone too far.
FROM BEVERLY HILLS:
Take Coldwater Canyon north from Sunset Blvd. Go north all the way to Mulholland Drive and turn left onto Franklin canyon drive. Then follow this narrow road south, turning left at the video-stop sign, into the dirt parking lot
