Hike, get wet in the pines at Cooper and Buckhorn falls in the Angeles Forest

First (OPTIONAL):
11:30am: Lunch at Buckhorn Day Use Area.
GPS COORDINATES: N 34.34581 W 117.92064

Then:

12 noon: BEGIN TRAIL-HIKE DOWNHILL TO TOP OF 100 FOOT TALL BUCKHORN FALLS via the Burkhart Trail. Hang around at the top of the falls for 1/2 hour,
Then we return to the Burkhart trail and continue downhill to Cooper Falls and hang out there for 1/2 hour. Then we hike back uphill the way that we came, getting back to our cars at 4:00

Weather: forecast is 87 degrees up in the high country, 97 down in the city

HIKE DISTANCE: 7 miles

DIFFICULTY: MODERATE, 1100 feet elevation loss getting there, then 1100 feet elevation gain on the way back

BRING SHOES YOU CAN GET WET!!!

THERE ARE LOTS OF ROCKS TO CLIMB AND MONKEY AROUND UPON!!!!
But the rock scrambling is optional

WHERE TO MEET?:

HERE IS A MAP FROM THE 210 FREEWAY--note: a portion of Hwy 2 is closed due to a rockslide, so you have to detour at Clear Creek Information station onto ANGELES FOREST HIGHWAY, then take UPPER BIG TUJUNGA CANYON ROAD BACK TO HIGHWAY 2 AND TURN LEFT.

Meet at the Buckhorn day use area parking area on the roadside. Look for a big sign that says (duh.....) "BUCKHORN DAY USE PARKING AREA".

PARK IN THE WIDE PAVED AREA ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY JUST BEFORE THIS SIGN (I am assuming that you are coming from L.A.):

A stinky national forest restroom is at the Day Use Area.

WATER AND RESTROOMS: We will be hiking through a civilized campground that has drinking water and toilets.

IF YOU PARK ALONG THE ROAD, YOU DO NOT NEED A $5 ADVENTURE PASS. IF YOU PARK IN THE DAY USE AREA PARKING LOT NEAR THE RESTROOMS, YOU DO NEED AN ADVENTURE PASS. (If you park with no adventure pass, the fine is $5.....wooooooooooo!)
