Vasquez Rocks: explore the mysterious middle...and Pizza party

We will hit some of the usual fun rock climbing spots AND SEE THE PUMPKIN-FACE ROCK AND CLIMB THE TUNNEL-CAVE, WHILE EXPLORING LITTLE-KNOWN FUN SPOTS IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS ROCK PARK. Most is suitable for those with a moderate level of hiking experience, no ropes needed.

HIGHLIGHTS: the Famous "Star Trek" Rocks, the Hogbacks, the Big Cave and the Cliffs by the Freeway (300 foot elevation gain here; cool rocks and a cave at the top!)

NOTE: We will split into two groups at the "looney ledge" this time. You can choose to do it or take the safe way to the top of the crazy cliffs

MILEAGE: 4
DIFFICULTY: MEDIUM, EXCEPT THE LOONEY LEDGEwhich is for skilled, mostly fearless rock scramblers.

ELEVATION GAIN: 300 feet a few times

• AFTERWARD: 6:30pm and on, the survivors will meet for beer and pizza at Big Mouth Pizza, located about 1/2 mile away on Agua Dulce Road

where to meet: DRIVE A 1/2 MILE INTO THE PARK . You will pass thru a narrow slot between large rocks. Park near 2 or 3 porta-potties. PARK ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE FAMOUS ROCKS (which Google maps calls the "Star Trek Historic Site"):

Bring clothing (sorry, nude hikes are a different Meetup group), lots of water--FOUR 16 OUNCE BOTTLES, OR 2 liters, A hat, comfy shoes, snacks, guitar, all your troubles..., camera, etc
