Monkeying Around at Mt. Rexmore In Chatsworth

Take a free tour of the somewhat famous Mount Rexmore preserve.

The 120 acres was purchased in 2013 by your hike leader and donated to a charity to save the wildlife migration corridor between the Santa Susana mountains and the Simi hills. It is home to at least 40 types of native flowers, trees and sagebrush, plus deer, bobcats, lizards, hawks, rattlesnakes and mountain lions. THE HIKE...We will take the eastern canyon loop trail off Mesa Drive to the south peak, monkey around, (ie., Climb all over the Rocky outcrops), & then drop down to the saddle trail completed last summer. Then we climb up the newest trail and explore the north peak rocks while snacking, playing guitar, doing dangerous looking stunts, or negotiating complex business deals....your choice.

WHERE TO MEET: at the Rocky Peak trailhead parking area located at the SOUTH end of the Rocky Peak offramp bridge at the 118 freeway, at the intersection with Santa Susana Pass Road.

DISTANCE: 4 miles. Difficulty: moderate. Hike is all on trails and monkeying around on the nearby rocks is optional. Elevation gain is 500 feet

YOU MUST SIGN A WAIVER OF LIABILITY:
Everyone must sign a liability waiver....yup, Damn lawyers, because this 120 acre preserve is private property owned by a charity, and it does not have the automatic liability immunity which public parks have.
