Dayton Canyon and Sage ranch rock-play parks

Dayton Canyon Park is 240 acres recently given to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy by a builder of homes at the bottom of the canyon. Sage ranch is 640 acre mountain top park with a ring of rock formations and a group campground, porta potties and running water, bought by the parks service in 1990. This is the first time I have attempted to link these two places together. Most of the hike is on dirt trails but a mile is on the little used Woolsey Canyon road.

We will hike up the canyon. It is a rocky trail so expect rutted uneven surfaces... Sit and eat lunch on some rocks and an overhang cave that has views across the valley. Then we walk along Woolsey Canyon road uphill for 1/2 mile until we enter Sage ranch Park. We will test our luck at the optional Ledge of Doom, Then hike the west loop. Then we follow the road and Dayton Canyon trails back to the starting point.

We will stop to explore rocks and caves and act like monkeys periodically.

POST HIKE DINNER: AT Country Deli, located at Topanga Canyon blvd and Lassen
