Santa Monica Canyon and Rustic Canyon - Urban Hike (with stairs)

DESCRIPTION - We will tour scenic, mostly residential areas of Pacific Palisades (except for a tiny bit of the walk in Santa Monica). These isolated and quiet neighborhoods are in canyons drained by Santa Monica Creek and Rustic Creek. They are gems for urban explorers because of their history, scenic views, architecturally interesting homes and (yes) stairways. Amazingly, this part of Pacific Palisades survived the fire relatively intact. Among our 9 stairways will be the famous Santa Monica 4th Street Stairs.

LENGTH: – 6+ miles. Elevation gain is ~800 feet.

SPEED: - Brisk, faster than casual walks, but we'll take breaks at points of interest.

RESTROOMS – Restrooms should be available at the start at the Rustic Canyon Rec Center.

PARKING - Parking is free at the Rustic Canyon Rec Center and the surrounding streets.

WEATHER: Rain will postpone the hike.

CAUTION: - Please follow all traffic and pedestrian rules. We will walk mainly in areas without sidewalks and with some blind spots on the roads. Use extra caution.

LIABILITY: - The organizer is an untrained and unpaid volunteer. By joining this event each member accepts full responsibility for knowing their limits, for injuries and health issues, for material losses, assessing all risks and for getting lost. Each member shall make their guests aware of these policies, also, and release the host from all liability.
