HIKE TO LITTLE KNOWN MOUNTAIN TOP PARK IN STUDIO CITY AND DINNER, WITH THE RAINFOREST IN-BETWEEN

We will be hiking along the crest of the Santa Monica Mountains above Studio City to the recent addition called Briar Summit, a 52 acre mountain-top that used to be a nike missile site. Here's some more info about Briar Summit:

http://smmc.ca.gov/PressRelease/Press%20Release%20Briar%20Summit.pdf

We will start at the Betty B. Dearing trailhead parking lot, walk along Mulholland to the east and climb the road to the top of Briar Summit. Then we turn around, return to the Dearing trailhead and hike the narrow dirt trail all the way to the Treepeople Center at Mulholland and Coldwater Canyon road. On the way, we pass thru the famous "rainforest" which features lots of shade and the notorious swing.

From Treepeople we will take the paved Mulholland drive back to our starting point.

DINNER AFTERWARD: At the Good Earth, located at 12345 Ventura Blvd. in Studio City City, which is about a half mile west of Laurel Canyon Blvd. on the north side of the street.

Lots of pictures from my last hike to Fryman Canyon are here:

DIFFICULTY: medium, based on expected temperatures. So bring a hat, an umbrella, (YES--AN UMBRELLA!!!) lots of water, comfy hiking shoes, sunscreen, etc. Maybe a flashlight for the return trip

DISTANCE: maybe 6 to 7 miles
