Christmas Eve Morning Hike to Mt. Hollywood via Hogback, Level: Moderate+
Details
If you are not working on Christmas Eve join us on a hike to Mt. Hollywood! We'll burn off some calories before other festivities of the day and we get to wish Happy Holidays to our amazing hiking friends, old and new.
We will make a clockwise loop via Hogback up to the picnic tables where we'll have gorgeous 360' views of the city. We'll pause for 5 minutes to enjoy the views and to re-group. After that we'll come back via Cardiac Hill and Ankle Breaker back to the cars.
LEVEL: Moderate+ for some of the inclines and for the speed. We are a friendly group that loves to socialize and encourage newcomers, but please note that moderate+ level cardio fitness and brisk walking speed are required.
LENGTH: 5.0 miles, 1250 ft elevation gain. +/- 2 1/4 hours. We'll be mostly on fire roads but will also take some single track trails.
SPEED: Brisk, with a short pause to re-group at the top of the steepest hills. There will be no sweep; bring a phone with navigation just in case you want to leave early.
BRING: Exercise outfit, hiking shoes, snacks? and water .
RESTROOMS: At the Merry Go Round. Please be back by 9.05am.
LOCATION: We meet at 9am for introductions and take off sharply at 9.05am. We'll start at the stairs at Griffith Park Merry Go Round lot #2.
PLEASE NO CRASHING: hikes like this do not work well with large groups, so, unfortunately, the space is limited. I "overbook" events in anticipation of some last-minute dropouts, so you cannot count on those spots being available. Waitlist, if needed, generally clears in order but priority may be given to members with good attendance records and a posted picture (LA Hiking group rule).
LIABILITY: The organizer is an uncompensated and untrained volunteer. By joining this event each member accepts full responsibility for knowing their limits, for all injuries, medical issues, assessing safety concerns, material losses and for getting lost. Each member shall release the organizer from all liability and have their guests accept these policies, also.
