Open Door Trail - Advanced
Details
Join us for a great hike in the Glendora area with some nice green hills and great views, including visits to an awesome swing and a big cross.
(Event is cross posted)
DIFFICULTY: ADVANCED
This is not a beginner hike. Even though this is a short hike the first mile up to the ridge is quite steep and physically demanding. We'll also try to keep a good pace in order to get some great exercise. You need to be quite well conditioned. We may get spread out a little along the trail, but we'll stop at hill tops, junctions, or benches to let everyone catch up.
THE PLAN:
The trail starts at the Open Door Church property in Glendora. We'll park at the parking lot right next to the trailhead which is on the left side of the main road in the property (see map). Please be there before 9 AM and we will start the hike shortly thereafter. We will follow the trail up to the ridge and then take a break at a cool swing overlooking Glendora. Then we'll head up to the peak which is a more moderate climb. From there we'll head back down and visit the big cross before returning down the trail we came. Bring some food/snacks for each of the stops.
DISTANCE & ELEVATION GAIN:
About 6.5 km / 4 miles and about 500 m / 1640 ft or so total elevation gain.
ESTIMATED TIME REQUIRED:
About 2.5 hours or so including breaks
PARKING:
There should be plenty of free parking along S. 7th Ave. next to the Orange Grove Middle School as it is a very long parking lot. It's just a very short walk to the trailhead at the end of the street from there. There are also 4 parking spots right next to the trailhead but most likely occupied.
If you would like to carpool just let people know in the comment section.
WHAT TO BRING/CONSIDER:
- Smaller backpack for day use
- Hiking boots or trail running shoes
- Hydration system (best) or bottles with water or Gatorade etc. At least a couple of liters
- Sun screen
- Sun glasses
- Some food/snacks
- Cell phone
- Hat
- Consider bug spray
NO SHOWS:
It is inconsiderate to the organizer, participants, and other members to RSVP and not show up, therefore I am registering no-shows. For this event you need to change your RSVP to "No" minimum 1 hour before the start of the event. If you have multiple no-shows on your record, you will be considered unreliable may not be admitted to certain events and we certainly will not wait for you.
