Marine Mammal Care Center, Fort McArthur, Korean Bell

Three interesting places to visit in San Pedro, for FREE and near each other.

MMCC Los Angeles is a non-profit hospital for seals and sea lions that strand on the 70+ miles of beaches from Malibu to Seal Beach due to illness or injury.

[[ 11:50 am ]] === depart and catch silver line bus J-950 to downtown San Pedro station, we will catch the 12:18, if not the 12:48 from
"Patsaouras Transit Plaza at Union Station"
One hour & ten minute bus ride.

[[ 1:30 pm ]] === arrive at downtown San Pedro, last station. (S Pacific Ave & W 21st St)

Order and Ride Uber to marine mammal, 1.5 miles uphill, ten minutes ride for six persons per car, $12 total per car.

Spend two hours approx at mammal center,
We can also eat lunch from the food trucks in their parking lot, if there are no food trucks present, then we will depart earlier since there are definitely food trucks at Korean Bell site.

[[ 5:30 pm ]] === Walk or uber back to downtown San Pedro to catch return bus, 1.4 miles downhill, 35 minute walk.

[[ 6:11 pm ]] === Hopefully catch 6:11 pm bus back, arrive at 7:32 in union station, arrive 8:15 in north hollywood.

You can park your car at North Hollywood metro station parking lot, make sure you pay the $3 parking fee if not you will get a fifty-three $$ ticket. Alternatively if you own an old car and don't want to pay for parking, you can park at "Winnetka&Pierce college" station and take G orange line bus to NH metro station, bus ride takes around forty-five minutes.

For union station attendies, you can park your car under Pershing-Square then catch subway to union, or can park under Civic-Center&Grand Park and catch subway to union.

Need a TAP card for G orange line bus, and also for B red line and J silver line. Can buy it from the machine at NH or Union station for 2 dollar, also load it with at least 3.50 dollar for our trips, one trip is valid for two hours with free transfer within two hours. Will cost you $1.75 each way.

Fort MacArthur museum has been closed since 2023, but we can see the grounds and the buildings from the outside, watch this video for the inside tour:

On the eve of America's 250th birthday, did you know that this Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument was a gift for the U.S. Bicentennial—50 years ago ?

The Korean Bell of Friendship, more commonly known as the Korean Friendship Bell, is a 17-ton cast bronze bell located at Angel's Gate Park in San Pedro. The bell was gifted to the City of Los Angeles in 1976 by the Republic of South Korea to celebrate the bicentennial of U.S. independence, honor Korean War veterans, and commemorate the lasting friendship between the U.S. and South Korea.

The bell's intricate design and massive structure was modeled after South Korea's Sacred Bell of King Seongdeok the Great, cast in AD 771 and now located at the National Museum of Gyeongju. The Korean Friendship Bell is housed in an ornate, pagoda-style pavilion known as the Belfry of Friendship, constructed by South Korean craftsmen and embellished with colorful, dancheong-style paintings. Quickly becoming a meaningful symbol of peace and harmony, the Korean Friendship Bell and Belfry of Friendship were declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1978.

The Korean Friendship Bell rings on the first Saturday of every month and on holidays including New Year's Eve, Korean American Day, Juneteenth, Fourth of July, Korean Liberation Day, and Constitution Day.
