Beaudry Loop Hike (Glendale) Level: Moderate+
Details
Come join us for one of our favorite local mountain hikes: the Beaudry Loop, starting in Glendale!
This beautiful trail is one of the highest rated hikes on AllTrails. We will take the steeper South route with panoramic views of the city up to the double peaks: Mount Thom and Tongva. At Tongva, next to the radio towers, there is a nice lookout point where we will stop to re-group, to enjoy the views, and to have a snack break for about 10 minutes. After that we will take the shadier, tree-lined North route down. The path is a wide fire road making socializing easy.
LEVEL: Intermediate Plus for speed. The incline going clockwise is somewhat steep, but not extreme. We are a friendly group that loves to socialize and encourages newcomers, but please note that moderate+ level of cardio fitness and walking speed are required.
LENGTH: 5.9 miles, 1500 ft elevation gain. +/-2 1/4h moving time.
SPEED: c. 21-22 min/mile going up. This is faster than most moderate hikes, but below advanced ones. We will make several one minute stops going up. The plan is to stay together as a group, but people tend to break off a bit and there is no sweep.
If you do end up taking longer than the main group where I will be, no problem, just meet us at the lookout point and we'll all come down together. The route doesn't have many turns, see map in the pictures.
BRING: Hiking shoes and water. Snack, if you wish. Poles are not needed unless you have a preference to have them on moderate hikes.
DOGS: I allow well-behaved, strong dogs, but the area has a lot of coyotes, so you take all responsibility for them!
Please note that we do not wait for dogs.
MEETING POINT: We meet for introductions at 8.30am and we take off at 8.35am sharp. (If you are late and attempt to catch us we are taking the South route (stay left) at the split c. 1/4 mile from the start, map is posted)
ALERT: Don't fully trust the Meetup GPS link. On rare occasions, depending on your phone and app, it can lead people slightly off!
RESTROOMS: none.
PARKING: Street parking in a residential neighborhood. Parking is usually pretty easy. There is additional parking on J Lee Circle, if needed.
LIABILITY: The organizer is an untrained and unpaid volunteer. By joining this event each member accepts full responsibility for knowing their limits, for injuries and health issues, for material losses, assessing all risks and for getting lost. Each member shall make their guests aware of these policies, also, and release the host from all liability.
