Located south of Newhall Ave in Santa Clarita, we meet at the south end of Pine Street at the Gates Family Wildlife Preserve, also known as Needham Ranch.
The hike runs south along the train tracks, then the trail splits. Continue straight ahead gaining 500 feet of elevation. See map in photos. At the halfway point we turn to the north and soon pass two large water tanks. After that we join a paved narrow road on a ridgeline which has signs calling it Needham trail. The paved road ends at two electrical power towers. From here we hike down the hill on a single track trail straight west to the starting point.
post hike dinner is at Thai Yaki. Located on Lyons ave. next to 5 freeway, the driveway is between a Shell and a Chevron gas station.
