Sunday Afternoon Hike in Palos Verdes

Join me for a late-afternoon hike through beautiful Palos Verdes!
We’ll explore a mix of paved residential streets, fire roads, single track trails, and coastal viewpoints. Expect a brisk-paced workout with some hills, uneven sections, and beautiful ocean views.
LEVEL: Intermediate plus
DISTANCE: About 6+ miles and 1000 + ft. in elevation gain
TIME: About 3 hours
PACE: Brisk, with regrouping at key points
Temperatures in Palos Verdes are expected to be around the 80s Sunday afternoon, so it should feel cooler than many inland parts of Los Angeles. Bring a light layer for later in the day.
MEETING POINT:
Meet by the fountain at Malaga Cove Plaza / Malaga Cove Shopping Center.
PARKING:
There are 4-hour parking spaces in and around Malaga Cove Shopping Center. Please read all posted signs carefully and make sure your space allows enough time for the entire hike.
If those spaces are full, additional public parking is available near Palos Verdes Estates City Hall, a short walk from the plaza. Please check all posted signs wherever you park and allow extra time to find a legal space.
START TIME:
We leave promptly at 3:00 p.m. Please arrive 10–15 minutes early to allow time for parking, introductions, and getting ready. We will not be waiting for late arrivals.
Because the afternoon tide will be high, the beach and tide pools will not be the main focus of this hike. We may stop at coastal viewpoints depending on conditions, but we’ll stay flexible and avoid shoreline areas if the surf or tide makes access unsafe.
BRING:
Water, comfortable walking or hiking shoes with good grip, sun protection, and a light jacket or long-sleeve layer for the evening.
AFTER THE HIKE:
Anyone who wants to keep the evening going is welcome to join us at Swan Thai afterward for dinner and sunset views.
