Hike the 6.5 mile Powder Canyon loop in Hacienda Heights

POWDER CANYON LOOP HIKE--3 HOURS, 6.5 MILES TO TOP OF PUENTE HILLS IN HACIENDA HEIGHTS

(FOLLOWED BY OPTIONAL SECOND HIKE TO "BRIDGE TO NOWHERE" AT NOON, WATER AND FUN IN THE AFTERNOON, AND DINNER AT THE SPAGHETTI FACTORY IN DUARTE--THIS HIKE IS SEPARATELY POSTED)

DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEAD: 60 FREEWAY TO FULLERTON ROAD OFFRAMP. Go south 2 miles and just past the intersection with Pathfinder Road, Fullerton Road turns to the right (west). (The straight road changes name to Harbor Blvd. DO NOT GO STRAIGHT! TURN RIGHT ONTO FULLERTON ROAD, WHICH IS A NARROW 2 LANE ROAD) The park entrance is a quarter mile ahead on the right with a dirt parking lot.

DIFFICULTY: medium. Elevation gain we start at 640 feet, climb up to 1040 feet, then drop down to 600 feet in Schabarum park at the restrooms, then we go up again to 1330 feet at the top of the Puente Hills. We then go downhill on the Purple Sage trail and turn right at the Powder Canyon trail and get back to our cars.

HIKE LENGTH: 6.5 miles and takes about 3 hours.
