A WORK OFF THAT THANKSGIVING FOOD-FEST !

An exploration of the Rim of the Valley Trail system: to the hills above Descanso Gardens and Cerro Negro Peak with beautiful views of the city and surrounding mountains

FOLLOWED BY OPTIONAL DINNER AT SOME COOL PLACE YET TO BE DECIDED.

Length: 10 miles on mostly wide fire-road

Elevation Gain: 600 feet from trailhead to Cerro Negro, (but a total of 2000 feet with ups and downs on the trail)

DIRECTIONS TO PARKING:
The hike is in the Cities of Glendale and La Canada-Flintridge, just south of the Descanso Gardens botanical garden and starts at the end of Stancrest Drive o the east side of where it goes under the 2 Freeway.

FROM THE SOUTH: Take the 2 freeway to the Verdugo Blvd. offramp, and turn left. (DO NOT TAKE THE VERDUGO ROAD OFFRAMP FROM THE 2 WHICH IS 5 MILES SOUTH OF THE CORRECT OFFRAMP. CONTINUE NORTH TO VERDUGO BLVD!) You will be heading west and go under the freeway. At the first street past the freeway on ramp, turn left onto Valihi Way. Follow Valihi south and turn left onto Stancrest. Follow Stancrest and stay to the left when the road forks. Soon Stancrest will go underneath the freeway. Just past the underpass is the trailhead. Park there.

FROM THE NORTH: take the 210 east to the Oceanview Blvd. offramp, and go south (right turn). Follow Oceanview to Verdugo Blvd. and turn left onto Verdugo. Then turn right onto Valihi Way and Follow Valihi south and turn left onto Stancrest. Follow Stancrest and stay to the left when the road forks. Soon Stancrest will go underneath the freeway. Just past the underpass is the trailhead. Park there.

FROM THE EAST: take the 210 west to the Oceanview Blvd. offramp, and go south (left turn). Follow Oceanview to Verdugo Blvd. and turn left onto Verdugo. Then turn right onto Valihi Way and Follow Valihi south and turn left onto Stancrest. Follow Stancrest and stay to the left when the road forks. Soon Stancrest will go underneath the freeway. Just past the underpass is the trailhead. Park there.

FROM THE WEST: Take the 101 freeway, until it turns into the 134 freeway and follow it all the way to Glendale, then take the 2 freeway north and exit at Verdugo Road. Turn left at Verdugo and left again at Valihi Way. Turn left at Stancrest Drive and stay to the left when the road forks. Soon Stancrest will go underneath the freeway. Just past the underpass is the trailhead. Park there.
