3 Days Trip to Emerald Bay at Catalina Island

Saturday, September 1, 2012, 7:00 AM
Selected By: Lee....we are joining Ed with the Sierra Club and OSS Meetup on this one.

SOLD OUT

PLEASE JOIN US NEXT YEAR. This is a one-of-a-kind 3-day-weekend (over Labor Day Weekend)! A fantastic adventure in paradise awaits you twenty-six miles across the ocean at Camp Emerald Bay in the northern end of Catalina Island. You will be surrounded by beautiful beaches, crystal blue water, and spectacular views for three spectacular days. Your amazing weekend will include snorkeling, swimming, hiking, kayaking, dancing, dance lessons, sunbathing, fun games, consuming sumptuous meals, optional Scuba Diving (non-Sierra Club event),social activities and just relaxing in your own personal style.

You don't have to be the camper type to enjoy this trip, you can either stay in the pre-assembled platform tents with or share cabins with friends; no sleeping on the hard ground on this trip. There are plenty of hot showers and other amenities to make your weekend comfortable and relaxing. You will be savoring delicious gourmet faire throughout the weekend prepared by an experienced catering staff. The evening activities start with a happy hour followed by dinner and then the dinning room magically turns into a dance floor with a live DJ with a variety of all styles of music and perhaps a disco ball! We plan on having some dance lessons again this year. If dancing isn't in your groove; no worries - many choose enjoy the campfire and sing the oldies - last year there were 6 guitar players that kept the chords flowing. Or just kickback on the wooden pier; gaze at the bright stars and stare at the moonlight silhouetting off the glistening ocean. It's all good.

Your days will be spent playing in the sun and socializing with the rest of your adventure-mates. Last year 270 participants went on this trip and believe it or not you will have the chance to meet and interact with all the participants that go this year!! Although, it sounds like a lot of people, the camp is absolutely huge; and even with the large number of participants solitude if desired can also be achieved.

Trip fee includes: Round trip Catalina boat transportation, camp & landing fees for two nights, platform tent w/bed and mattress or wood cabins w/electric lights/outlets, hot showers, flush toilets, campfires, kayaks, dancing, dance lessons, many leader led hikes/activities, optional competitive events, catered meals.

• Price with platform tent accommodation - $268
• Price with cabin upgrade - $288

Trip Fee for Non-Sierra Club Member

Is there a list of things we are responsible for? Pillow, blankets, breakfast, etc. Sorry didn't see that info.

    August 14, 2012

    • Jason H

Hi Liseth. All paid participants will be receiving the info packet with all that info within the next few days. We're finalizing all the last details and apologize for the delay.

      August 15, 2012

  • Liseth

My friend n I would like to join but works til 1pm on sat. Do we only have one specific time for the boat?

    August 13, 2012

    • Camp R.

Hi Liseth, the charted boats depart by 8 am Saturday. The only other way would be for you to take the Catalina Express Ferry boat to two harbors and then catch a water taxi to the camp - but it would increase your cost for sure. Let me know if you would like more info. Ron

Where do we leave our cars and how much is the parking cost while we are gone?

    July 26, 2012

  • Camp R.

    Hi Renee,
You can still make the trip; the date posted for final payment is August 15. The event is for all ages over 21; not just 20 and 30 year olds. The sponsor is the 20s and 30s group. Please have you and your friend sign up seperatly.

    July 26, 2012

  • Renee H

How soon does payment need to be made? I would like to come along with another group member, but we are getting conflicting information that the payment date has passed and the event is only for 20 - 30 year olds. Can someone please let me know?

    Thanks!
    Renee

  • Camp R.

    Hi Lorenza,

We charter two boats from Long Beach near the acquarium. The boats take us directly to the camping area. It is a bit difficult to join the trip late and unfortunately the fee is the same due to contracts for the facilities. Hope you decide to join us because it is really fun.

I never did this trip yet so I would like to know from where you are going to departure: is it from Long Beach (by the Qeen Mary), San Pedro or Dana Point? And how do you get to the Camping area from the boat? For those who has some money, a helicopter takes 14'/15' Vs. 1 H. by ferry. Thanks!

lorenza, i guess the boat or two boats are leaving at 7 and 8 am. there are no other way to be there unless you pay for your own transportation. and same for return. so you are either in all the way, or ....

    July 16, 2012

  • Lorenza C.

I don't think I can go three days. How can I join you for only Sun or Mon? Is it any possibility to join you for hiking and buffaloes watching? How much should I pay for joining you? Oh no I can't go early Sat or Sund? Maybe starting around 11 AM. Do you have any schedule for each day activities? Thank you!

Liz, the price last year for parking was $6/day with validation. We'll confirm the price closer to the trip date.

    July 1, 2012

  • edward

Liz, it is open to everyone over 21.
There is a parking structure across the street. They'll also give directions to another close parking structure. Jason, you want to give them them prices?

Where do we park or leave our cars and how much is parking?

    June 29, 2012

  • Jason H

Hey Party People! I'm Jason and one of the leaders on the Catalina trip for the past 6 years. I'll try to help eD answer any questions.
-Sandra: We're leaving Saturday morning and returning on Labor Day Monday so please don't take any unnecessary days off or show up a day early. =)
-Craig: Unless you work weekends or holidays, you shouldn't have to use a vacation day which is how we planned it.
-Diana: It's probably 50/50-ish? Some go by themselves, others bring friends or their SO.

    June 28, 2012

  • edward

Craig, it is Labor Day weekend. Three days off.
    Diana, either.
