Tuesday Night Trailblaze

Details
First TNT Workout of March!
Are you looking to add a cardio workout during the week? Join us for a night out under the stars and enjoy a TNT workout! It's a fun, steady pace, the views are amazing, and group members are motivating. Individually we push the pace along the route to get in a good workout as we head to Mount Hollywood. At the peak we marvel at the city lights for a few minutes before heading back to the start.
The workouts are interval training workouts: quick pace -short bursts- along the hilly sections, the pace picks up on some of the flat sections, & the climbs are individual goals. The goup is typically in small clusters during the intervals (climbs, fast sections, etc.) and individually not far apart. There are quick recover points -brief stop or walking pace- and a break at the top but the group enjoys moving. So let's burn calories, build strength, and increase stamina. Pack light for a fun-fast pace!
Occasionally there will be TNT "LIGHT" nights and "IA Options" will be included when possible (details below).
Get it Going, Keep it Going!
Look for "TNT LIGHT" nights - intended for Intermediate levels that are ready to try a TNT workout. If you have been working out regularly and are ready to add a cardio workout come out and join us. The routes usually allows the group to stay together but if necessary we split in two and I finish the workout with the second group. It's a way for new members to try the workout and check their level. It may be titled "TNT LIGHT" night but the goal is to put in a good workout.
The "IA Options" (Intermediate-Advance) are points where the workout can be shorten. It's a way to start doing parts of the workout and continue to increase endurance. You'll be blazing the entire 7-miles with the group and under two hours before you know it. The return trail(s) from a IA Point are as direct to the starting point as possible. IA Options are listed below Tonight's Plan.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tonight's Plan:
From the Bill Eckert Trail head east on the Old Zoo Trail towards the Fern Canyon Trail (FCT). Go up the FCT a short way & take the FC Nature Trail then the Pipe Trail up to the FCT junction (1st Climb). Slight down & pick up the Shortcut Trail up to Vista View Point and then descend towards the Greek Theater on the Riverside Trail. At the bottom pick up the Charlie Turner Trail and head up to 3 Points (2nd Climb). From there do the final push to the peak on the south side of Mt Hollywood (3rd Climb). At the peak we'll catch our breath, enjoy the view, & then take the East Ridge Trail to Vista View Point -Shortcut Trail down to the Fern Canyon Trail- and back to the start.
Bonus: Glendale Peak (fast out-&-back)
Starting Point: Parking Lot (565') Points: FC Nature Trail (600'), Vista View Point (1040'), Greek Theater (870'), Mount Hollywood (1625'), Glendale Peak (1184')
IA Options: - 1) do the Old Zoo Trail section & good 1.5 mile workout. At the Fern Canyon Trail (FCT) junction head to the start; it's a short walk to the parking lot. 2) Do the above plus the Pipe Trail climb to the Fern Canyon Trail. About a 2.5 mile workout with a good climb. After the good sweat head down the FCT to the start. The FCT is wide & popular with beginners and it's easy to follow it back to the parking lots.
