http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/0/a/0/event_101168352.jpegThe Hollywood Sign is the most famous sign in the world. It stretches four stories high and 450 feet long across the top of Mt. Lee in the Hollywood Hills.
Built by Los Angeles Times publisher Harry Chandler as an epic $21,000 billboard for the upscale Hollywoodland real estate development, the “Hollywoodland” Sign quickly took on the role of giant marquee for a city that was constantly announcing its own gala premiere. Originally intended to last just a year and a half, the Sign has endured more than eight decades
Total Time: 3.5 Hours
Elevation: The Hollywood sign is approx 1700 ft. elevation.
Distance: 7 - 8 miles
Hike Level: 5 to 7 of 10 Intermediate and upper intermediate. NOT a beginner hike.
We will meet at the parking lot in Bronson Canyon. From Franklin, turn north on Canyon (at Gelson's Market) approx. 2 miles north of Franklin ...you will drive through an opened gate to the large dirt parking lot on your right. If the lot gets full, you can park on the street south of the gate entrance.

We will start by visiting the famous Bronson Caves AKA the Batman Caves where they filmed many movies and the Batman TV series.
Wear good hiking shoes. Bring water and snacks.
The first 1/2 mile after visiting the Batcaves will be up steep foot trails behind the caves. You will get a good workout. You must have good tread on your shoes. This will be the most difficult part and I rate it at level 7 or upper Intermediate-. Then when we reach the road and the balance of the hike will be Intermediate or level 5... we will follow it as it winds around, going by Captain's Roost and on to the intersection at Mt. Hollywood Drive. From there we take the trail traversing the mountain until we get to the paved road on up to the Hollywood Sign. We will stop at the peak above the sign and take a break and eat snacks.
Coming back down we will take the dirt fireroads...not challenging.
My pace is slow or moderate. I will take breaks along the way.
No Dogs please
Do not sign up if you do not intend coming. Be courteous and make room for another if you change you mind by posting "no" on your RSVP.
