Fern Dell Hike

This is truly is a level 4 -5 Hike ! (Intermediate) There will be (3) three level 5 or 6 inclines. Maybe one level 7 incline that should only take 3 min's to climb.

The hike begins at the Fern Dell Parking lot in Griffith Park. Drive to north past Trails Cafe to the large parking lot....go to north end of lot and meet at the dumpsters on other side of street.

The Hike starts at the dumpsters - beginning on a fire road for about 50 yards then trails all the way up to Mt. Hollywood. From there depending on the time, either a slow walk around the Chapel, Taco and Bell peak areas, or straight to the Observatory. Once the Observatory has been observed ... then we'll be taking a fire road back to Fern Dell. Basiclly on wet days I prefer to fire road walk more than anything else for safety reasons. So, this might turn into a afternoon trail walk.

Hike Level: Intermediate 4-5 of 10 - Not a beginners Hike and not a Grunt hike either.
Distance: 4 miles or more
Duration: maybe a little more than 2 hours depending on stops and discussions
Elevation Gain: total approx. 1600 feet. (NOTE: If there is a small group we can alter the hike, slightly, into a more advanced hike if there is complete group approval.)

LA Hiking Group's definition of various levels:

Level 4: Moderate – Good inclines with some stress on further distance.
No Beginners, No Kids, Most Teens, Dogs, Footwear Recommended, Water Required
Level 5: Moderate – Inclines start to get more intense. Gain and distance goes up.
No Beginners, No Kids, Some Teens, Dogs, Hiking Footwear Recommended, Water Required
