Ok I want to do hike with a group because the group makes me go faster and i don't want to be slow in front of the ladies. It is nice workout and you see great views throughout the day. It is a rollar coaster hike, in other words, we go up and down throughtout the hike so we have a chance recharge and breathe and talk to people while on the hike. This is especially important for Jose since it is getting harder to lug himself up the mountains nowadays.
When: Saturday may 5, 2012 9:30am
Where: DON'T MEET AT THE Griffith Observatory-- meet at the north end of the parking lot of the griffith observatory at the George Harrison Tree. Right there you will see a street sign the says charlie turner trailhead and Mount hollywood trail.
Directions: from where ever you are get to the 101 freeway. You will exit Vermont ave.
that street is between Hollywood and Downtown L.A. Follow vermont North heading towards the mountains. You will follow the street til ends in griffith Park. The road keeps going up the hill, so stay on the road and follow the signs til you reach the observatory parking lot on top.
What to bring: Water, snack, HIKING SHOES, Hat, dress for weather
Hike Level: Advanced beginner, 4 out of 10, 6 miles roundtrip, 1000 feet gain and loss, walking on trails and roads. Slow pace uphill and medium pace downhill. When i take the trail by myself it takes me 2 1/2 hours so with the group it should be 3 hours or so.
Hike description: Ok first we will walk on roads til we get to the felix's garden trailhead. We will go up Felix's Garden trail and up to the captian's Roost. Then we will take a trail up to mount Hollywood. we will rest and enjoy the view for a minute or two. From there we will take a road for a while and past mount Taco, Mount bell, and baby bell. If the group wants a challenge we will go up the mounts. then we will take a small one man trail passing Mount chapel til we get to a road leading upto mount lee where the hollywood sign is.
There we will rest, take a group picture, and have our snacks.
On the way back we will take the small trail back and then a road that will take us straight back to the observatory.
Dogs ok but must be on leash at all times
Email me if you have a question, don't send a greeting I don't see those.
