Fun Outdoor Workouts!

Are you looking to add a cardio workout during the week? Join us on the Griffith Park trails for a TNT workout! It's a fun workout with a steady pace start-to-finish, the group members are motivating, the views are amazing, and being outside feels great! Individually we push the pace as the group heads towards Mount Hollywood and at the peak we marvel at the view for a few minutes before heading back to the start.

TNT are interval training workouts: it's a quick pace, with faster, short bursts up hilly sections, the pace picks up on some of the flat sections, & the climbs are individual goals. The group is typically in small clusters during the intervals (climbs, fast sections, etc.) and individually not far apart. There are quick recover points -brief stop or walking pace- and a break at the top but the group enjoys moving from start-to-finish. So let's burn calories, build strength, and increase stamina. Pack light for a fun-fast pace!

The organizer or a sweep typically stays between the "speedsters" and the members in the process of improving their endurance or the members that are trying the workout for a first time. The organizer/sweep will wait at the regroup junctions, No Member Left Behind. The only request is that you desire a good workout and are willing to push the pace to improve your endurance.

The Plan: Buzz to Bee Rock

Head west towards the Old Zoo and take the Old Zoo Trail heading east towards the Fern Canyon Trail. At the FCT junction go right briefly and pick up the Old Zoo Trail on the right & heading west towards the Bee Rock Trail. Take the BRT to Bee Rock and then take Vista Del Valle Drive to the Mount Hollywood Trail & begin the steady climb to Mount Hollywood. At the peak we'll catch our breath & enjoy the view for a few minutes then we'll take the Mt. Hollywood Trail to the Bill Eckert Trail.

Bonus: climb south face of Mount Hollywood

Have you thought about trying a TNT workout? Tonight's route is a good one for members that would like to try a TNT workout for the first time because the workout can be shorten. Option 1: do the Old Zoo Trail to the Fern Canyon Trail section then head to the start from the junction. It's about a 1-mile fast pace workout. The OZT & FCT junction is very close to the starting point (5-minute walk) & easy to follow. Option 2: A litte bit more sweat. Continue on the OZT for about another mile to the Bee Rock Trail junction then head back towards the start (about 3-mile total). The return to the start from BRT junction is nearby the start (5-minute walk) & also easy to follow. Option 3: If you are still feeling strong after the OZT sections continue and do the climb to Bee Rock and followed by the steady climb to Mt. Hollywood . The views heading up the MHT & at the peak are worth the effort.

Points: Parking Lot (565'), Pipe Trail & FCT junction (910'), FCT & OZT (595'), Bee Rock (1056'), Mount Hollywood (1625')
