Fun Outdoor Workouts!
Are you looking to add cardio workout during the week? Join us on the Griffith Park trails for a TNT workout! It's an intense workout with a fast pace start-to-finish, the group members are motivating, the views are amazing, and being outside feels great! Individually we push the pace as the group heads towards Mount Hollywood and at the peak we marvel at the view a few minutes before blazing back to the parking lot.

TNT are interval training workouts: it's a high-intensity, fast pace start-to-finish, there are short bursts up hilly sections, the pace is faster on some of the flat & downhill sections, & the big climbs are individual goals. The group is typically in small clusters during the intervals (climbs, speed sections, etc.) and individually not far apart. There are quick recover points (brief stop or brisk walk) and a break at the top but the group enjoys moving fast start-to-finish.
Members that want to try a TNT workout for the first time should join us on the first Tuesday. It's always an intense workout and the route is typically shortest the first Tuesday of the month. The miles, elevation gain, and climbs increase the weeks that follow. The last Tuesday of the month should not be your first TNT workout. The organizer/sweep stays between the "Blazers" and the members in the process of improving their endurance. The organizer/sweep will wait at the regroup junctions, No Member Left Behind. However, you must be able to maintain a fast pace start-to-finish
It's the third workout of month! The workout will be between 7 to 7.5 miles, at 3.5 mph, with 3 climbs, and some speed work. This TNT should NOT be your first unless if you are in tip top condition & can comfortably do a 3.5 mph pace for two hours. At Mount Hollywood we'll catch our breath, enjoy the view for a few minutes, then we'll go north towards Water Tower 113, pick up the Bill Eckert Trail, & finish the workout.
Tonight's route. Depending of the pace of the Blazers some TNTrs will have the option to do a shorter route. Regardless, be prepared to keep a fast pace start-to-finish.
Difficulty: (Advance) TNT workouts are NOT slow pace hikes and the difficulty level is NOT for beginner hikers. TNT are interval training workouts up/down hilly sections with few breaks. You may use your hands for balance and leverage on steep trails. The workouts are for people that have been hiking/training regularly and want to add interval training to the weekly regimen. The TNT workout averages & an actual tracked workout (miles/gain/time/speed) are listed below.
Distance: 5.5 to 8 miles Gain: 900' to 1800' Time: 1.5 to 2.5 hrs
Tracked: Water Tower 113 Loop: 5.5mi/1200' gain/1:38 time/3.3mph

From 134 East Freeway: EXIT Forest Lawn Drive go RIGHT and LEFT on Zoo Drive (first light), followed by a RIGHT at the first stop sign, Griffith Park Dr. Drive for about 3-miles (4 stop signs) and go RIGHT at Crystal Springs Dr. and then go RIGHT first stop sign, no street sign, but look for a Merry Go Round signs pointing RIGHT, drive on the road a bit & make a sharp RIGHT into Parking Lot #1, as you enter Lot #1 STAY LEFT, drive to the last aisle, and Go RIGHT toward Parking Lot #2 (lot with lights). From Los Feliz Boulevard Driving WEST on Los Feliz Blvd. Make a RIGHT on Riverside Drive into Griffith Park. Go TWO STOP SIGNS and make a LEFT, no street sign but look for a Merry Go Round signs point LEFT, drive on the road a bit & make a sharp RIGHT turn into a Parking Lot #1, as you enter Lot #1 STAY LEFT, drive to the last aisle, and Go RIGHT towards Parking Lot #2 (lot with lights).
