Twas two nights before Christmas and all through the town

everybody felt bloated, stuffed full and run down

except for those few who had exercised that day

to make sure the calories kept burning away

So how about it? Meet up with your fellow hikers for a 4 mile roundtrip hike to Skull Rock in Topanga State Park, 800 feet elevation gain, with a loop past the Temescal Ridge overlook. It's a hike most beginners can finish, and all levels are welcome.

We’ll take the waterfall trail (seasonal waterfall may or may not be evident), stopping briefly at Skull Rock so that people can climb and take pictures, before returning via the ridge trail. Views of Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean await.

Start a new Christmas tradition this year with a hike in the West LA hills.

Bring comfortable shoes, 1 liter or quart of water, windbreaker or sweater in case there's a breeze, holiday-theme’d snack (candy cane, reindeer sausage, etc.), and your Christmas spirit. And money if you wish to join us for an optional after hike brunch nearby.

Sorry, but no dogs are allowed on this hike (and yes, I’ve seen plenty of dogs on this trail, but officially, dogs are not supposed to be there and I want to encourage following the rules).

To repeat Meet Up rules, I am not assuming any responsibility for you or your loved ones. You understand that hiking involves various risks, and you assume full responsibility for your own safety prior to the hike, on the trail, and afterwards. You promise to be on good behavior throughout the hike and understand that you can be excluded from the group for any reason (but especially if you upset or endanger others). This hike is scheduled for a maximum of 3 hours, but this is a rough estimate which can be affected by weather, number of participants, trail conditions, and other factors.

You can choose to pay and park inside Temescal Canyon Park (and I'm sure you will be thanked for your contribution). There is also plenty of free parking on Sunset and Temescal Canyon.

Rain cancels.
